You are asked to identify a real fluids system that employs a pump. For this system you are required to: • explain the function of the system and how it operates. • identify the type and power of the pump • describe how the pump works and explain why the type of pump used has been selected for this application. • carry out calculations on flow rates through the system, speeds of flow and losses to show why the pump power is appropriate for this use. • compare your calculations to the actual power of the pump used. Evaluate the correctness of your analysis. • sources of information should be referenced This assignment is worth 15% of the overall marks for the module. Marks will be awarded on the basis of: • description of the system and explanation of how the pump works (45 %) • evidence of research carried out (including references) (10 %) • correctness of calculations shown (25 %) • level of evaluation carried out – discussion of accuracy of final answer (15 %) • layout and presentation of report (5 %)
