Assignment title: Management

Write an essay on one of the following topics.(1) Christians from the beginning (and remember that all the earliest Christians were Jews) have believed that Jesus is Savior and that in some sense he is divine as well as human (or, that he is the presence of the God he preached). Write an essay explaining first how Wright tries to show the roots of these beliefs in the actions and teachings of the historical Jesus. Secondly, whether or not you agree with or hold these beliefs, do you find Wright's analysis explaining why and how these beliefs arose to be persuasive? Give reasons for your judgment.(2) On p. 169 Wright summarizes what he believes Jesus saw as his vocation, his calling, or what God was asking of him. This was to combine in his own person three traditional expectations: messiahship, the servant of Yahweh (Isaiah's prophecy; see pp. 153-58), and the return of God to God's people. Wright says: "[God] would do this [i.e., return and establish God's kingdom] in and as the Messiah, the servant. In and as Jesus of Nazareth." Wright goes on to say that to believe this about oneself "was to court the charge of madness or of blasphemy" (pp. 169-70). And later on p. 174 he tries to explain why Jesus would have nevertheless come to believe this is what God asked of him.Write an essay (1) briefly explaining the grounds of these three expectations in the Jewish tradition and (2) explaining why Jesus connected these expectations. If you wish you may also reflect on why Jesus believed God was asking him to fulfill these expectations in his own person. You will find it necessary to reflect on what Wright discusses in Chapters 12 & 13 in particular in order to write a good essay on this topic.
