Assignment title: Information

The high-performance work environment, the human resource professional must serve as a strategic business partner. The human resource professional has the best view of employee needs as the context of an organisation changes; therefore, he or she should be involved in identifying opportunities for intentional design of an organisation through training or structural changes. When it comes to intentional organisational design, the human resource professional should be involved in shaping and managing relationships among departments, the flow of information and workflow. With such involvement, the human resource professional can help focus employees on the shared goals of the organisation. How, though, does a human resource professional go about assisting in the building of organisational processes and design in order to facilitate the development of shared goals? In this Shared Activity, you will discuss the human resource management processes that support meeting organisational goals. You will also discuss how to strategise in order to improve the flow of information, workflow and relationships between departments. To prepare for this Shared Activity: •Review the readings for this unit. Think about the unique demands organisations face in a fast-moving and uncertain economic climate. •Consider how human resource professionals can contribute to organisational design in such a way that, as Linda Holbreche emphasises, the ability to change is built into the organisation’s DNA (People Management Editorial Staff, 2008). •Think about the following questions as you consider the unit’s readings: ◦What are the processes that human resource professionals use to support intentional organisational design? ◦How does the design of an organisation affect performance outcomes? ◦How can the human resource professional help employees take ownership of organisational goals? ◦How can the human resource professional, through participation in intentional organisational design, contribute to productive flows of information and work? To complete this Shared Activity: •Write a post in which you address the following: ◦Identify the types of organisational goals that human resource professionals can best support through decisions about organisational design or re-design. ◦Describe how the intentional design of an organisation affects performance outcomes. ◦Provide your analysis of how the human resource professional, through participation in organisational design, can contribute to productive flows of information and work. •Read a selection of your colleagues’ postings. Respond to at least two colleagues’ postings. You may draw attention to similarities and differences in your analyses or respond in other ways that will foster a collaborative discussion.
