TASK 1: Recruitment, Selection and Retention Procedures Context: For the purpose of this task, you are the HR manager for your chosen organisation. You are writing a report to your HR director regarding the recruitment, selection and retention procedures which you have adopted/have been in used in your organisation. Hence, your report must underline the process of how you have implemented the recruitment, selection and retention procedures for your organisation by clearly stating your ability to prepare documentations to recruit candidates; legal considerations and assessment made for the recruitment process and evaluation of your own contribution to the selection process as you would have taken part in the process. (AC 1.1-1.4 covered) 1.1 General/Relevant answer will constitute the following: Explain what Job description and Person specification are, and present the Job description and Person specification documents which you have used to recruit a Job role which you have selected in the context of the selected organisation. A better answer will constitute the following: Linkage made with the broader recruitment process describing the stages of recruitment. i.e. assessment of the job (Job analysis), assessment of the type of applicant required (Person specification) and attracting the candidate (Job advertisement) Provide an explanation for the terms ‘job description’ and ‘Person specification' and briefly explain how you have arrived to the development of the documentations. For example, it may be that you have used Roger’s 7 Point plan to develop the content of the Person Specification. - Outline the components of ‘job description’ and ‘person specification’. (Detailed descriptions can be put in the table format) 1.2 General/Relevant answer will constitute the following: Describe the importance of legislations (Laws) in recruitment and selection process particularly for your chosen organisation. Then, identify and assess the relevant legislations which you have given careful considerations to the recruitment and selection process for your organisation. A better answer will constitute the following: - Describe different legislations affecting recruitment and selection. - Weigh up the positive and negative of legal compliance. Is it important to comply with it? (What if legal compliance is not achieved what will it means for the organisation?) - Identify which legislations are most important and why in the case of your chosen organisation. (Provide justification) Examples where the legal aspects are evident: - Pay (Pay discrimination) - Job advertisement ( message which is communicated) - Selection methods used (choose the methods which can be accessible for all potential candidates) - Sources of recruitment ( engage with the sources where diverse workforce can be obtained) 1.3 General/Relevant answer will constitute the following: Describe briefly the selection process in your organisation within which stating your involvement in different stages of the process. For example, have you taken part in the interview process or made crucial decision on selecting candidates. A better answer will constitute the following: As a HR manager of your organisation, what selection process have you put in place to ensure that the selection process is fair and ethical? Justify your answer. Describe the stages, process and methods you have adopted for selecting the job role you have created. For example, have you used interview, test, and job trials etc.? You can make linkage with the legislation stated in the above and build arguments by covering v Implementing a fair and ethical selection process is important, but may only manifest on policy paper. v More and more organisations are using such practices for ‘marketing purposes’ or ‘employer branding’ – so is regulation effective (or) does it work? v On the contrary, in the real world organisations today may not be able to uphold or adhere to regulations due to human factor surrounding judgement/management decision; accountability and follow-up. 1.4 General/Relevant answer will constitute the following: As a HR manager, outline the contributions (which you think HR manager can make) you made on the selection process. A better answer will constitute the following: Review the literature on the role of HR manager in the selection process. Outline your involvement in the selection process. Offer your view on how your role as HR manager has made positive (or) negative contribution to the selection process. Give evidence for each of your views or statements. Task 2: The styles and impact of Leadership in team Context: For this task, you will need to explore different leadership styles and their impact on work team. It is important that you make specific reference to the situation in which a particular leadership approach prevails by underlining the précis of the theory with practical situations. You will also need to comment on how specific leadership approaches are perceived by the team members. It is preferred that you made use of your chosen organisation as an anchor to the key areas addressed in the task. (AC 2.1-2.4 and AC 3.1-3.3 covered)
