Purpose of Assignment: Complete analysis and provide recommendations of a business operating in
Canada
Task:
1. Select a company which operates in Canada that is well known. Complete a competitive analysis
on this company
a. This will need to be a company you can gather information to determine core
competencies, capabilities and resources
b. You will be required to complete both an internal and external scan of the company in
order to do the competitive analysis
c. It would be recommended that you choose an organization that has a strong internet
presence in order to gather this information
2. Complete research on external factors relevant to the industry, complete a detailed external
and internal scan of the business.
a. Consider using the following tools to support your paper:
i. PEST
ii. SWOT and TOEWS analysis
3. Complete a competitive analysis on the company using the following:
a. Where is the company on the Competitor Analysis Framework (Market Commonality vs.
Resource similarity)?
b. Who are the main competitors for this company?
c. What are the drivers of the company's competitive behavior?
d. Which factors affecting likelihood of competitive attack are relevant? Why?
e. What is the company's competitive advantage?
4. Based on the analysis answer the following question in your paper:
a. What initial recommendations would you make to this company to achieve competitive
success?
5. Prepare a PowerPoint with crisp slides on the important information, and include the additional
details, including citation and references in the notes section of the PowerPoint (come see me if
you need help with this).
6. Upload your report to D2L to the Assignment 3 Dropbox
7. You are also required to deliver a PowerPoint presentation to the class.
8. The PowerPoint presentation should be interactive, informative and engaging:
a. All members of the group should present a portion of the presentation
b. Group members should be prepared to answer questions from the audience and
instructor
c. The presentation should be 10-15 minutes with an additional 5 minutes available for
questions9. The PowerPoint should include key points and highlights from the report that engage the
audience with the material and display understanding of the concepts of External, Internal and
Competitive analysis.
10. Ensure you include a slide for references.
11. Find ways to engage the audience through video, visuals, charts, examples, audience questions,
etc.
12. The presentation will have a peer evaluation component, primarily on content, however,
