Assignment title: Management
Assessment
The module is a standard-type module, with two components of assessment.
Component A is a presentation of a model.
Component B is an individual report of maximum 2500 words. The two components A and B are
weighted 1:2.
You need to get a minimum of 40% in each component and a minimum of 50% overall to pass the
module.
Presentation
The Examination will be a presentation of a poster containing key themes from your coursework and
designed to give a high level briefing to management. The presentation will last 8-10 minutes during
which time you should convey your main messages to the assessors.
You must design a model capable of guiding experienced private sector client/procurers of large projects
towards making decisions about the appropriateness of procurement-related choices. The model should
promote best practice in a discriminating and responsive way whilst making assumptions on the client's
sophistication and appetite for engagement.
Where best practice ideas are being promoted the model should also give consideration as to their
effective use.
The model should provide for:
• Private clients with construction experience of large projects
• Options which gauge the client's receptiveness and state of readiness to embrace new practices within
procurement.
• Examines procurement choice based on factors wider than standard cost/quality/time criteria
• Explore which elements of government best practice could enhance the client's experience
• Promote the adoption of best practice through recommendations which differ depending on the
client's particular characteristics.
• Recommend legal safeguards and initiatives aimed at protecting or enhancing the client's position
with regards the supply chain
Students physically attending UWE must submit a paper version of the model in a format large enough
for them to present to two assessors posing as clients.
On-line students must submit a Kaltura recording of their presentation.
N.B. Specific mention of initiatives and material discussed in class and in on-line discussion groups is a
measure of participation which is an assessed criteria for the model.
