PROJECT SPECIFICATION DOCUMENT Student Name: Student ID: Project Title: Movicel-Angola Ltd, VLAN Network Design, Structured equipment Installation and secure wired and Network solution, for Angolan Compnay-Movice-Angola Ltd. Pathway: Network Engineering and Telecommunications (Nets) AIM: My Aim is to provide the best practical solution according to their requirements and the existing network problems they are currently having in the company. Objectives: • First step is to do researching of network problems the company is facing currently and to find the best practical solution for their problems. • After deciding the solution I will be using the most suitable methodology for this project. • Then analyze and design the project • Implementation using a prototype then testing it to see if the solution overcomes the problems in the current company network. Brief Description: I have been approached from a company called Movicel-Angola Ltd for their network problem. As I have knowledge of networking so they have asked me to provide some feasible solution for their network problem. This company currently has computers connected on the network without any kind sharing. All the computers are standalone but connected to a network just to share broadband. Every computer has the individual role like one computer has an application installed where every user use that one machine to work on that application. The company network is not properly configuring and managed. Their sales representatives are not able to access the company network when on field. After analyzing the company network, I have come to the conclusion that their main problem is that they are not sharing resources. The network is not secured and is not centrally managed and have no proper email system. They are having a lots of connectivity issues. The company is running few applications which need to be shared among the users so they can work simultaneously. They are not sharing printers and many more things due to reliability issue. They don’t have shared drives where they can share and backup the data. After going through all these problems I have to give them the most feasible solution for their network in which they can avoid these issues. After doing some research on different networks and analyzing everything I have suggested them a solution of network of domain environment where they will require either on e or two servers as required. Everything will be centrally managed in which users are created on the server. Every user will be allocated a quota of a network drive and one centrally shared or mapped drive where they can share data and also backup their data. An accounting application for server environment will be installed on the application server from which it will shared among all users by installing client application on each machine. For the purpose of email an exchange server will be configured. Small VLANs will be created for each department for security purpose also best security and firewall will be configured for securing the network from outer attack. Currently its under consideration by them to configure VPN for their sales representatives to access company network when on field. Once it’s approved then it will be the part of my project. Initially I will design a prototype to check this solution using different simulation software’s like packet tracer etc. before I implement in the company to check if the solution is good enough to remove the problems of the company. Special Conditions; e.g. assumptions, risks This project will initially be implement on prototype tool using packet tracer or some other tool before it’s implemented in the company, so there might be some minor issues when implemented on live project. • There will be very less research work due to the lack of time.
