Organizational Effectiveness
Organizational effectiveness is always a key topic of conversation within the organizational
boardroom. Companies are finally realizing that the answer to running an effective business is no
longer as simple as cutting costs and increasing workload. Bottom line-thinking can no longer be
the bottom line as organizations need to be more creative when addressing effectiveness if they are
to be competitive and sustainable in the long term.
Organizational behaviour practitioners believe that in order for an organization to truly be effective,
they must address and embrace four key perspectives (practices) - not just one or two, but all four:
Open Systems Perspective, Learning Perspective, High Performance Work Practices (HPWP), and
Stakeholder Relationships.
This paper will provide an opportunity for students to explore organizational effectiveness through
the lens of OB, and the important role the aforementioned perspectives play in accomplishing this.
Instructions:
Consider the work practices and conditions of your current workplace (or perhaps a previous
workplace you were employed with). Perhaps your company is strong in all four areas, or
perhaps they are only strong in one or two areas and seem to be weak in the other areas of
organizational effectiveness. This will be up to you to decide, to explain, and to justify
within your paper.
Critically reflect on how the company addresses (or neglects) each of the four components
of organizational effectiveness, and then critique how your organization addresses TWO
of the four components of organizational effectiveness within your paper (you are only
choosing TWO, not all four, for this assignment). Support your claims by providing relevant
examples throughout.
I am looking for understanding and application of organizational effectiveness. This
will require critical thinking on your part which means you will be expected to
understand and explore organizational effectiveness through a variety of different
lenses as it relates to your organization. Do NOT use secondary information/ research
as this is NOT a research paper. Your voice and understanding of organizational

Format:
3-4 pages of content (this does not include the title page), double-spaced. DO NOT
exceed 4 pages.
Headings:
o Headings must include: Introduction; Conclusion; and each of the two components
of the organizational effectiveness that you address.
Formatting criteria:
o Double spaced.
o Times Roman font, 12-point font.
o Standard top, bottom, left, and right margins (leave these all at the default setting on
your computer. Do not revise).
o Title page (this is a separate page and must include: title, student first and last name,
instructor first and last name, course name, due date).
