HOP92: Revising PDFs with Acrobat
This is a supplemental exercise that is not found in your class textbook. In this exercise, you will be using Adobe
Acrobat to revise an existing PDF file.
SCENARIO: You have been given the task of making revisions to the PCC catalog pages for the Computer
Applications department. The Curriculum office has sent you the PDF file of the current catalog pages and has
asked you to review them and make changes. You will use Adobe Acrobat to perform the following tasks:
Remove a page
Add a Watermark
Add a Footer with a date field
Highlight text
Electronically sign the document

1. Complete the following steps to prepare for this assignment:
Inside the cas137 folder, create a new folder called hop92.
2. DOWNLOAD the following file: hop92_catalog.pdf. This is a PDF file of an old version of the PCC Catalog
pages for the Computer Applications department. In this exercise, you will be performing several edits of this
document.
3. SAVE the file as: xx_catalog_revised.pdf. Save this file in your hop92 folder.

When you first open the catalog PDF file, you notice that there is an extra page stuck in the middle of the document

1. OPEN xx_catalog_revised.pdf in Adobe Acrobat. Be sure to open it in Acrobat, NOT Adobe Reader.
Look at the top of your screen. It should look like the following image. Make sure that you see the "Tools,
Sign, Comment" buttons on the righthand side of your screen.
2. Click the DOCUMENT button. This will open up the Tools panel on the righthand side of your screen and
leave the document open in the main window.
3. Select ORGANIZE PAGES from the Tools panel on the rightside of your screen.
4. Select page 5, then click the DELETE icon. This is the page that does not fit with the CAS department pages.

5. Once the page has been deleted, you should have 7 pages in your document. Click SAVE.

Before you can send this out to your committe, you want to be sure that everyone knows this is just a DRAFT. The
best way to accomplish this is by inserting a DRAFT watermark into the background of all your pages.
1. Click the DOCUMENT button. This will open up the Tools panel on the righthand side of your screen if it's not
already open.
2. Select EDIT PDF
3. Click WATERMARK on the toolbar, then select ADD.

4. Enter the following information:
Text: DRAFT
Size: 120
Opacity: 35%
Rotation: 45 degrees
5. Click OK. SAVE your document.

You would like to add a Footer to every page of your document. In the Footer, you'd like to have the Revision date
so that whenever someone opens the file and makes any changes, a new date will appear in the footer.
1. You should still be in the EDIT PDF window. If not, click Document, then select EDIT PDF from the Tools
panel on the rightside of your screen.

3. Enter the following information:
Left Footer Text: Revised
Click the Insert Date button and the date field will be entered.
4. Click OK. SAVE your document.

Upon closer review of the catalog pages, you realize that the word "web site" should be changed to "website". You
decide to highlight all instances of "web site" throughout the catalog pages.
1. Close the EDIT PDF window, then click the COMMENT button in the tools panel on the rightside of your
page. This will open up the Comment panel on the righthand side of your screen.
2. Click the HIGHLIGHT TEXT button to turn on the highlighter.
3. Read through the first page of the document and highlight all instances of "Web Site" on the FIRST PAGE
ONLY! There are 10 instances of "web site" on this first page. (You can press CTRL+F to perform a FIND if
you are unable to find all 10 instances.)
4. Click SAVE.
There are many other "neat" features in the Comment panel. You can explore these tools on your own if
you're interested.

You are now ready to send this document back to the Curriculum department. Their final request was that you
digitally sign the document so that they know you approve.
1. Click the FILL & SIGN button in the tools panel on the rightside of your page. This will open up the Fill &
Sign window.
2. Click SIGN on the toolbar, then select ADD SIGNATURE.
3. Draw or type your signature, then click APPLY.

5. Click SAVE.
