Assessment Brief
Team QA/Workplan and Case Organisation
Maximum duration is 1 week. It is recommended that you form your Team and start Team Planning
as soon as the workshop is completed.
Typical tasks include (maximum duration 1 week, can start during the intensive workshop):
Develop your Team QA/Workplan including a detailed schedule of tasks under each activity,
the corresponding milestones and deliverables, responsibility allocation for each task, points
of coordination, quality management processes and close out points. It will be necessary to
have one of the team members to act as Coordinator of the teamwork during each activity.
The Team QA/Workplan should be no more than 8-10 pages and written in a summarised and
succinct manner. Information should be conveyed in graphics or tabulated as far as possible.
The plan should facilitate effective monitoring of the team's progress and coordination of the
members' activities. It should be updated regularly when necessary. Submit your Team QA/Workplan to the Course Convenor or Tutor. Use the Assignment
Submission tool and make sure you submit before the due date. Refer file naming conventions
to ensure a consistent format.
Do not wait for endorsement of your plan by convenor. Proceed to Activity 1. You may
improve your Team QA/Workplan after receiving comments from your course convenor; you
can do this while working on Activity 1. Remember that Team QA/Workplan is a tool for
effective teamwork and for team progress monitoring and corrective action to achieve the
goals of the Project Phase and facilitate competency acquisition or enhancement.

benchmarking modes only)
Perform the SCA and PCA assessments on your peers.
Team Deliverables: Team QA/Workplan
Individuals need to ensure that the selected case project and the Team QA/Workplan contain
sufficient challenges for them to deliver their target competencies, including the following:
Managerial and Technical competencies: e.g. how the conduct of the tasks individually and
by the team can contribute to the acquisition, refinement or enhancement of the relevant
competencies.
Socio-cultural competencies and team dynamics: e.g. will the plan contain opportunities to
learn about personality and learning styles, communication and cultural awareness, norming
processes, behaviour observations etc? If not, how does the student plan to acquire/enhance
his/her socio-cultural and personal competencies?
Individual Deliverables: Assurance via assessment of project scope and team/own activities that the
Team QA/Workplan will indeed fulfil their competency acquisition needs (document and include
evidence of this in your Final Report).
Submissions: Each team to submit its Team QA/Workplan (no more than 8-10 pages including all
graphics and references) within 1 week from the start of the Project Phase to the Course Convenor
through the Submissions tool.
Assignment 1: Literature Review, Best Practice Model
(maximum duration, 2 weeks)
Literature Review comprises the following typical tasks:
Conduct a team brainstorming session to scope, the size and extent of conceptual studies
needed and agree on strategies to complete the same on time
Source, classify and analyse a sample of papers, guidelines, textbook chapters etc that address
project/program information, communication and documentation management challenges
and best practices. Divide the task of reviewing and analysing the literature among team
members, as all team members are expected to have a sound knowledge of the underlying
concepts and principles being applied by the team
Summarise the literature and put the results into a proper framework and approach that you
and your team consider relevant to the scope of the assignment
Assemble the work done by individuals in your team and refine it further Review and edit it to ensure it reads well and both the contents and the format are of
acceptable quality
Document your literature review results in a summarised and formatted style including use of
diagrams and tables to portray the same as far as possible
Complete and submit the Confidential Peer Rating form
Perform the SCA and PCA on your peers
Submission (Assignment 1): A team report addressing the literature on project/program information
and communication systems with focus on the case organisation. The outcome of the literature review
should be relevant to the assessment of the case project. It should show the exploration of alternative
framework, processes, procedures and systems. Do not wait for a response from your Course
Convenor; proceed to the next activity. Comments and feedback from your course convenor can be
incorporated into your work in parallel to the conduct of Activity 2.
Individual task: Perform Self Reflection. Please save the results of self-reflection as it has to be
included in your Final Report for this unit of study.
Assignment 2: Initiation Plan (Methodology for Researching Case
Project Info. Comm. & Documentation Management System)
(maximum duration, 2 weeks)
Activity 2 aims at developing a methodology for investigating the current case project information and
communications system.
Conduct a team brainstorming session to decide on your strategy and scope for the conduct of this
activity.
Investigate and document the following (not exhaustive):
Review the case project background, history, delivery process etc. (Make sure you have a good
understanding of the project size, complexity and risks)
Develop a methodology for researching the current case project information and
communication system (framework, process, input data, resources, timing, sequence of tasks,
etc)
Consider using Project Health Check as part of your methodology
Evaluate your methodology against the Assignment Brief to ensure it is a correct approach
Develop a schedule to complete the rest of the project phase (including Activities 3 and 4)
Compile Assignment 2, refine and submit
Complete and submit the Peer Rating (for teamwork and group benchmarking modes only)
Perform the SCA and PCA assessments on your peers
Team Deliverables: An Initiation Plan for fieldwork. The Initiation Plan will guide the entire fieldwork.
Submission (Assignment 2): Please submit your Initiation Plan (ideally no more than 30 pages
including graphics and appendices if any). Do not wait for response but proceed to the next activity
straight away. Comments and feedback from course convenor can be incorporated into your work
in parallel to the conduct of Activity 3 or later.
Individual task: Perform Self Reflection. Please save the results of self-reflection as it has to be
included in your Final Report for this unit of study.Assignment 3: Current Case Project Information and Communication
System
(maximum duration, 2 weeks)
The purpose of this activity is to apply the Initiation Plan (Methodology) to research the current status
of the case project information and communication system. Teams may use the College's Project
Health Check to get a clear understanding of the current situation and practice on the case project.
The list of tasks includes:
Conduct a team brainstorming session to decide on your strategy and scope for the conduct
of this activity
Investigate and document current (or actual) project information, communications and
documentation system
Conduct Project Health Check to investigate the current status of the case project overall and
specifically the status of project information and communications system
Interpret the results and draw up diagrams (e.g. schematic representation of the overall
system, information flow charts for individual components, etc.) to highlight the way the
system was set up and how it works
Convene a team meeting to finalise and consolidate your team's findings and summarise the
same
Review and compile your Assignment 3 and submit
Perform Peer Rating
Perform the SCA and PCA assessments on your peers
Team Deliverables: A structured draft report on the case project current information, communication
and documentation management system.
Submission (Assignment 3): Please consolidate the above into a succinct but well-structured report
and submit it using the OLS submission facility. (Your report should be ideally no more than 20 to 30
pages, including graphics and appendices if any). Do not wait for response but proceed to the next
activity straight away. Comments and feedback from course convenor can be incorporated into your
work in parallel to the conduct of Activity 4.
Individual task: Perform Self Reflection. Please save the results of self-reflection as it has to be
included in your Final Report for this unit of study.
