PURPOSE OF ASSESSMENT
To undertake a Research project to demonstrate an understanding of compliance for
materials used in Residential Class 1 & 10 Buildings, (less than 3 storeys, and less than
2000 m2 ). As part of this assessment, it is required you identify materials used, (recorded
by photographs), which are to be reported on, as per the task description. Materials are
to be identified as part of building methods, which will also include the installation of
services which are part of the building process.
The Proposed Project is assumed to be located on Batesford Rd, Chadstone, (opposite
the Holmesglen Chadstone Campus)
TASK DESCRIPTION
TASK REQUIREMENTS
Building Material – Photographic Research Project
You are required to Research Building Compliance and prepare a
comprehensive series of annotated (labelled) photographs and diagrams of a
domestic residential low rise buildings up to 3 storeys, (Class 1a & 10a
buildings).
This project should cover various stages of construction and describe regulatory
requirements assess the use of the construction materials, in accordance with the NCC
Volume 2 and Australian Standard, etc.
Ensure that your assignment calls attention to the stages where a mandatory inspection
would be required (see r.901 of Building Regulations 2006 (Vic))
You will need to take photographs of more than one building under construction to
complete the assessment in a timely manner. It is recommended that you visit housing
estates where you will see dwellings at differing stages of construction. This will allow
you to reduce the number of site visits you need to make, otherwise, you will need to visit
sites regularly to observe the building process and to take photographs and sketch
construction details, or include manufacturer’s technical data.
Where possible, try and obtain a copy of the plans and other related documentation from
the owner, builder or designer, (if available, and reasonable access to these documents is
granted). Photographs of the relevant documents will greatly assist your research.
This assessment will be submitted and reviewed at week 12 (Nominated by your teacher)
before the final submission (see assessment timetable for submission requirements).
This process is in place to give you the opportunity to receive feedback on your progress
to allow you to modify your methods if required.
THE SUBMISSION DATE : WEEK 14, Refer to the Unit OutlineADVANCED DIPLOMA OF BUILDING SURVEYING
