Assignment title: Information
Systematic literature review (20%)
Due Thursday 30 March @ 11am
1000 words
Individual submission
Your next task towards the completion of the consultancy project is to determine what has
already been written about your topic. In this phase of the project, you are required to
complete a systematic literature review for submission and assessment. This work is to be
submitted individually.
A systematic literature review is a specific style of literature review, different from both a
narrative review and a meta-analysis. The systematic review process, as the name suggests,
is methodical in nature, with the reviewer following a prescribed set of steps in order to
search the literature and identify relevant material for review. These steps are made explicit
in the write up of the review.
Due to limitations in terms of time and scope, for this assessment, the systematic review
process is simplified. The steps that you need to complete are outlined below.
Learning activities designed to address the purpose and importance of the literature review
should be revisited when completing this section of the project. See LMS for more details.
Conducting a systematic review of the literature:
1) Develop list of key words to use in your search which aligns with your topic based on
a cursory search on Google Scholar.
2) Using the inclusion/exclusion criteria below, choose the 10 most useful articles from
your search.
a) Limit your search to the databases Proquest and/or Informit. These databases
have been chosen as they cover a range of disciplines, with Proquest
including a wide range of international sources and Informit representing a
comprehensive Australian database.
b) Limit your search to articles published between August 2015 and August
2016. If you cannot find appropriate literature within this timeframe, expand
your search backwards by one year at a time.
c) Articles must be empirical, peer-reviewed and written in English.
3) Take notes and prepare a summary table of the 10 articles. For each article, this table
should include: the reference, aim, method, sample, results, findings and limitations.
What to submit:
1) At least a paragraph describing the search process used to conduct your systematic
review. Your search process should be clear and replicable.
2) A critical review of the key findings and arguments of the articles you have chosen.
3) Include a reference list with full bibliographic detail of the 10 articles you have chosen
for your review. This is not included in your word count.
4) Include your summary table as an appendix. This is not included in your word count.
You will use this assignment to help you write a succinct literature review section in your final
report.

The Ethical Shopper: Myth or Reality?
Jennifer Goodwill works for large department store, ShopHere, as their
procurement officer. Founded in 1984, ShopHere has grown from a single
market stall to a national, multi-channel retailer. ShopHere sells high-quality
products across 95 stores in Australia and through an e-commerce platform.
ShopHere source much of the cotton for their clothes from ethically-traded and
organically-produced crops. They have many other products that are sourced
sustainably and that respect the environments from which they are gathered.
ShopHere made a deliberate decision to source such products to meet the needs
of the more ‘ethical consumer’. Lately however, profit margins have slipped and
Jennifer has begun to speculate if there really is such a customer as the ‘ethical
consumer’.
Jennifer would like to find out if what people say they buy based on ‘ethical
grounds’ is actually what they buy when they get to the check-out. She has
employed you to undertake some research which helps her better understand the
‘ethical consumer’ and their decision-making. She will need you to present a good
deal of primary and secondary research and strong evidence to back up your
claims, as the results from your research may impact the direction of ShopHere
in the future.
