Assignment title: Information
In this hypothetical situation, you are responsible for shipping material that is measured as volumetric cargo – CBM, which stands for Cubic Meter, to be calculated as length X width X height. Also assume that you will get charged per Freight Ton (weight, or volume, whichever is higher).
1. If the length is 1.6 meters, and the width is 3.2 meters, and the height is 2.8 meters, what is the CBM? 2. If your freight rate is quoted as USD. 10/per freight ton and the weight of the package is 2,500 kilograms, what is the freight rate in both volume and weight? 3. Which freight rate will apply?
Your report can be completed as if being prepared for your current employer, or a previous employer. Your answer should be at least 500 words in length (single-spaced).
I have part of the answer, but I need the 500 word requirement.
Answer to the question 1:
According to Boljanovic (2015), the traditional method of calculation of Cubic Meter (CBM) is the multiplication of length, width and height. In this perspective, the length is 1.6 meters, the height is 2.8 meters and the width is 3.2 meters. Thus, based on the above formula, the required CBM is
1.6 meters × 2.8 meters × 3.2 meters
= 14.336 CBM
Answer to the question 2:
As per the given question, weight of the package is 2500 kilograms. Thus, the freight ton amount by weight is
2500/ 1000 ton
= 2.5 ton
Now, the freight rate is quoted as per the requirement is USD 0.10/ per freight ton.
Thus, the net expenditure by weight is
$ 2.5 × 0.10
= $ 0.25
Based on the above question, the volume of the freight is 14.336 CBM.
Thus, the net value of the freight while sending through volume is
$ 14.336 × 0.10
= $ 1.4336
Since, the freight rate of volume is higher; it needs to be sent by weight (Kaplan and Anderson 2013).
