The objective of this assignment is:
Gain an understanding of the scope of the construction industry, different phases and
activities that make up the building design and construction planning process
Explain the roles and responsibilities of owners, architects and contractors
Project Delivery Process, selecting contractors
Use of different relevant codes and specification for all the construction phases
Become familiar with professional and trade organizations and their contribution to the
construction industry
Explain process a design professional must go through to choose materials that adhere to certain
requirements in a variety of considerations including weather condition
Explain pre construction activities and required experimentations (laboratory or field testing
involved in residential buildings
Regulation, certificates and permits required during a construction of two-story residential
building
You are assigned as project coordinator/site supervisor for two-story residential building (Timber)
(Drawing set is attached) with the following assumption:
The project is located in Toronto, Ontario.
Owner has no knowledge of construction.
Trades: Carpenters, Plumbers, technicians, civil technicians, geotechnical investigator, surveyor

Number of workers: 15 - and more than 6 persons working at a time (in different shifts)
The project needs soil investigation and environmental site assessment
You are required to consider all the steps essential through main four project phases: Pre-design, design,
pre-construction and construction phases. You should explain all sub-tasks required in each phase and
perform related consideration.
Project is a group assignment. Each group must submit their project (Pdf and hardcopy) based on the
evaluation timetable deadline. Project report should include cover sheet with group team members.
1. Assessment criteria
The assignment will be graded on the basis of the following:
Demonstrating an understanding of the content and application of construction standards and
specification, construction stages and activities.
Accuracy of the information presented.
Clearness and effectiveness: Use of appropriate language, clarity, conciseness, appropriateness
of terminology, use of tables, diagrams, images, AIP referencing, etc.
Groups: 3 to 5 members
