CAREER EPISODE Introduction: Rashid Trading and Contracting Company (RTCC) is one of the top construction companies in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia undertaking both public and private construction projects. With head office in Riyadh, the capital city, the company has branches all over the kingdom and is well known for its qualitative, visionary and futuristic works. Besides, it holds the reputation of owning the top shopping malls in the country. I am proud to have chosen this company to start my career with. Date of Joining: 13 Feb 2013 until present Location: Al-Khobar, Eastern Province, KSA Organization: Rashid Trading & Contracting Company Position Title: Electrical Engineer Background: Nature of the Project My employment in the RTCC as an Electrical engineer was for both construction and maintenance departments. RTCC is a very famous contracting company in the field of construction across the kingdom. Known for its quality of work, RTCC is the most chosen company for government projects. It is a fast growing company and achieving greater heights each year. I was given with the first project to supervise, construction of apartments as part of the company's accommodation. From the planning, costing, stocking up material required for the implementation of the plan, everything was included in the project. I made the Building of Quantities (BOQ) which gives a detail plan of the project. And then I presented this BOQ to the management for the approval. As soon as it was done, we had the whole plan to be implemented soon. Objective of the project The objective of the project was to make a working plan for the construction of the company's accommodation for the employees and implement the plan in achieving the target. Considering the budget allotted for the project, a layout of the manpower, the material required and the time taken to accomplish was to be made and presented to the management for the approval before implementing the plan and start the work on site. Nature of Work Basically, my job was to create a plan on an excel worksheet for the project I was assigned to considering all the elements required to accomplish the project of constructing an accommodation site. The step by step procedure to complete the work of providing Electrical supply to the whole building had to be prepared. I had to draw a single line diagram explaining in detail how the electrical supply will be carried all the way from the electrical room to the apartment and be distributed to every corner from the rooms to the kitchens, bathrooms and corridors. I also had to calculate and confirm the specifications of the electrical equipment such as the Transformers, Circuit Breakers, Panels, Cables and Installation material. In addition to this, a clear picture of the fire alarm system with smoke detectors all across the building was to be developed. Lastly, I was supposed to calculate and present the total cost that will be required considering the cost of material and manpower combined for the whole project. All of that to be reported to the In charge of Electro-Mechanical Team. After the approval, I had to execute the whole plan on site while supervising all the works according to the plan.
