Step 1
Introduction (6 marks)
Read the given articles and give an introduction to the airline industry in general and
Emirates airlines in particular.
Discuss the changes in the environment which the airline industry in general and Emirates
Airlines in particular is facing. You could consider some of the following factors:
- economic,
- sociocultural,
- global,
- technological,
- political/legal and
- demographic
Step 2
Application of economic concepts and models:
At least 3 concepts should be applied (7 x 3 = 21 marks)
• demand and supply
• elasticity
- difference between business and leisure travellers
- with respect to substitutes
• costs of production (short-run and long-run)
• economies of scale
• market structure
• price discrimination
• subsidies

Global Challenges faced by Emirates Airlines

Discuss the global challenges faced by Emirates Airlines such as exchange rates, economic
downturn and political problems, competition from foreign airlines etc.Step 4
Conclusion and Recommendations

- Write a conclusion
- Give recommendations on how Emirates Airlines can develop and sustain a
competitive advantage in the industry
- What are its strengths and weaknesses and how can it minimize its risks?
