Assessment Task 1: Individual Research Essay 1) Assessment Details The international manager Purpose: Describe, using academic references, the international challenges and possible opportunities for managers operating in a global environment. Provide a recent practical example of an Australian organisation which has faced the challenges of international competition and expansion. You can use companies which have been in recent news, such as Qantas, or Ford, for sources. Give your personal view of how some of the conflict generating and solutions could have been handled in a more effective process. You will find chapters 1, 2, 3, and 9, 11, 14 from Luthans & Doh (2014) particularly relevant, along with other readings. 2) Criteria used to grade this task 1. Style: Essay 2) Due date: Week 5 (Please insert date here) 3) Contribution to assessment: 25% 4) Word limit: 2000 (please include a word count) Content: • Good understanding of international environment, challenges facing managers operating in a global business environment. • Demonstrate insightful interpretation of the conflicting context and apply relevant frameworks and management principles to analyse and critique the management solutions. • A clear logical flow between paragraphs. • Comprehensiveness of argument, given word limit. Detailed marking criteria see attached marking guide in Appendix 1. 1) Task Assessor Lecturer 2) Suggested time to devote to this task A suggested minimum of fifteen hours revision time 3) Submission details An electronic copy is required to submit online via Moodle in week 5. A printed copy is also required to hand in week 5 before the lecture. Off campus students seek advice from lecturer on due date. 4) Feedback and return of work Marked assignments shall be returned to students within two weeks. If more time required, the lecturer shall inform students in advance. Appendix I Marking Guides/Rubrics: – Assessment Task 1-Individual Assignment Student Name: Marking Criteria Very Poor Poor Satisfactory Good Very good MARK CONTENT (10 Marks) The student has: • Good understanding of international environment, challenges facing managers operating in a global business environment. • Demonstrate insightful interpretation of the conflicting context and apply relevant frameworks and management principle to analyse and critique the management solutions. • Well-researched and choose appropriate example(s) to keep abreast with the international management development • Demonstrate the ability to critically reflect upon and give considerable thought to the key factors/issues pertaining to the management process of global environment • Provision of individual view/opinion and discussion with related examples on possible different solutions • Comprehensiveness of argument, given word limit STRUCTURE/ORGANISATION (5 Marks) • The introduction is appropriate to the type and format of response and clearly outlines the focus. • The body of the response is well structured, with coherent and logical development of key ideas in appropriate sections/paragraphs. • Each section/paragraph has a clear focus and line of thought. • The conclusion and recommendation are appropriate to identified key issues and associated challenges. WRITTEN EXPRESSION (5 Marks) • The writing style is appropriate to the task. • The writing is fluent, exhibiting grammatically correct sentences that are appropriately punctuated. • There are no spelling or typing errors and due regard is given to rules of capitalisation and abbreviation, etc. • Key ideas from the literature are effectively paraphrased and cited, and direct quotes are appropriately incorporated. PRESENTATION (2 Marks) • The response conforms to the appropriate style guide advice and the requirements of the specified format (font, margins etc) REFERENCING (3 Marks) • In-text citations and direct quotes follow APA referencing guide rules. • Reference list and/or bibliography appropriately compiled.
