This assessment will set you up for success in future units as well as when you make the leap into your new career. The software you will be using for your presentation is Microsoft PowerPoint. No matter what your familiarity with this program, the following things will set you up for success: Follow the instructions given in this document. Read the criteria and rubric carefully. Complete the activities associated with this task. Seek feedback from your eLA and fellow students. Look for examples of great presentations that you can borrow ideas from. Please note: you are not required to do an oral presentation. Instead, you will present a creative, visually appealing PowerPoint presentation for submission via Turnitin. This is your chance to present information about yourself in an engaging and visually interesting way while conveying your message clearly and effectively. This assessment contributes to the following learning outcomes: 3. construct and publish knowledge in the online environment 4. reflect on self as a learner. Assessment details This assessment is also an initial reflection of your current state – a snapshot in time for Week 6 of your first unit in your online course. In your final piece of assessment you will be asked to look back on this presentation to reflect on your journey through the unit and think about the pathways ahead. Use this prompt as a starting point (you’re not required to use this anywhere in your presentation – it is merely to give you the overall context for what you will present Use the following slideshow content criteria as a guideline: 1. My areas of expertise – what do I bring to this course? (Think about what work and life skills will cross over to the discipline you are studying). 2. My current knowledge of the online environment. (Note: as students who are developing your capabilities in this area, we don’t expect you to be an expert). 3. Unit goals – what key skills and attributes do I want to have by the end of this unit? 4. Course goals – what key skills and attributes do I want to have by the end of this course? (Include how these will benefit you in your future profession). As you won’t be speaking during the presentation – your PowerPoint will need to do the talking for you. To avoid crowding your PowerPoint with lots of text you will need add the parts of the presentation you would usually speak to the notes at the foot of each slide. A PowerPoint template (AdditionalResources/Firstname-lastname-COM10003- assessment2-presentation.pptx) is set up for this purpose. Each of the sections above should be approximately 200 words long to reach the total limit of around 800 words (no shorter than 720 words and no longer than 880 words in total). If you split each section into 4 slides (you can have more or less as long as the total word count is 800 words +/-10%) that’s only 50 words per slide! Important note: you are not required to reference for this presentation. As an online learner, on a journey to a new profession, this is my current situation.COM10003: Assessment 2 27/3/17, 5)50 am https://ilearn.swin.edu.au/bbcswebdav/pid-6129416-dt-content-ri…/courses/2017-SO1-COM10003-219333/Assessments/assessment-2.html Page 2 of 3 Please follow the steps below to complete this assessment: 1. Write content for each of the four slideshow content criteria above. We’ll call this a ‘script’, even though you won’t be speaking it. There is an activity in Week 4 that will help you do this. 2. Split your script up into main ideas or themes (one slide per idea). For instance the section My areas of expertise could look like the example below. Please note this is a guide only. Notice how each area of expertise has a clear application to the student’s course or future profession. As you will be workshopping your ideas with your fellow students, only include what you are comfortable sharing with others. The example below is a single section of a PowerPoint presentation containing five slides with the text content detailed. 3. Use the PowerPoint template to build your presentation. You may add or remove slides as necessary as long as the word count is 800 words (+/-10%). 4. Add titles to your sections. 5. Add your text to the ‘Notes’ section at the foot of each slide. See the outlined red area in the image below for placement of this text within a slide. 6. Insert appropriate imagery and style slides (see Additional resources for some ideas). There is an activity in Week 5 that will help you with this. 7. Submit to Turnitin to check originality report – review and edit as necessary. 8. Make final submission by due date as per the instructions below.
