Assignment title: Information

Assignment Brief Assignment title: Presentation and Personal Self Development Deadline: 19th April 2017 Purpose of the Assessment To understand the basic tasks managers need to be competent in to manage people and processes and evidencing personal competence. Assignment Tasks: You must complete all of the tasks listed below: Harari (2016) states, productivity in the UK is 18%-points lower than the average for the G7 countries. This is the widest productivity gap since 1991. The low levels of increased productivity are impacting upon the UK economy (Harari 2016). It is recommended the development of management skills would help the situation. Harari, D (2016) Productivity in the UK. House of Commons Briefing Paper. 06492. 9 September 2016. 1. Evaluate two tasks managers need to be competent at, in order to improve productivity within an organisation. Using relevant academic theory, support and justify your choice of tasks and explain how they would improve organisational productivity. You must support your discussion with appropriate academic literature referenced using Harvard referencing. 2. Evaluate one business communication tool, as an approach to support the sharing of information, which would help to improve productivity levels within an organisation. You must justify you choice and support your discussion with relevant theory. 3. Identify a specific (management) job role in an organisation, you wish to attain, directly after completing your University course. Present the job role and the organisation, you have chosen. Justify your choice of job role and organisation. Explain where the specific role fits within the organisation (if you wish to be self-employed you must indicate the role you would adopt within your own business and the overall mission and purpose of your business). Identify 3 skills, knowledge and/or personal qualities needed for your chosen (management) job role, which you have identified above. 4. Complete the ‘Employability Skills Self Assessment’ diagnostic tool (available on the Changemaker Hub site). Complete two other diagnostic assessments tools using a range of psychometric profiles (one of these additional diagnostic assessment tools must be from our class). 5. Create a personal working gap analysis, using the information from the three diagnostic assessments. From each of the diagnostic assessments, identify one skill, knowledge, or a personal quality, which you need to develop to be able to attain your chosen (management) job role (as identified in question 3). You must identify which diagnostic assessment each of your chosen skills, knowledge or personal qualities has been derived from. 6. Construst a self development plan, which outlines your personal development activities for each of the skills, knowledge or personal qualities identified (in question 5), from your diagnostic assessments and gap analysis (3 in total). Your self development plan must cover your development actvities for 3 months. Your personal self development plan should form part of your Powerpoint Presentation slides, on Turnitin by the submission date, as indicated below. You must link the skills, knowledge and/or personal qualities (3 in total) from your chosen job role with your personal self development plan. You must explain how you will develop these areas to be personally competent. In your presentation, you must make it clear, where you are currently in terms of your skills and knowledge, where you want to be and how you will achieve the skills and knowledge to be able to attain your chosen job. 7. Evidence one developmental activity you have undertaken with the University’s ‘Changemaker Hub’, to improve your skills, knowledge and/or personal qualities, in preparation for you chosen job. (A developmental activity would not include a diagnostic assessment or attending an introduction presentation to the Changemaker Hub). Reflect upon your experience of what you have learned, gained and developed from the activity and answer the following in your presentation: • Explain why you chose the specific developmental activity • How has the activity helped you to develop your management skills? 8. Visit the University’s ‘Changemaker Hub’ site/website. You must evidence you have achieved at least 100 points from the ‘Employability Plus Rewards’ programme, by the submission date of the assignment. This information will be collected directly from Changemaker Hub by the Assessor. Your presentation must be supported with appropriate, relevant literature. Your presentation must be referenced using Harvard referencing, cited within the text and a reference list. References References should be cited within the presentation and a reference list, listed in full, in alphabetical order, at the end of your presentation slides in the Harvard Referencing Format.   • Your presentation slides must include appropriate referencing using the Harvard Referencing method (cited in the text and a reference list at the back of your presentation). Only work which is submitted can be used in the presentation. • Please note: You are unable to use information from other modules or any previously submitted work e.g. a development plan from the career development/reflections to work module from this current academic year or a previous academic year. • All work which is not your own original thoughts must be referenced • The usual late and non-submission criteria apply to this assignment. Learning Outcomes The learning outcomes being addressed through this assignment are: a. Understand where specific roles fit within an organisation. b. Evaluate a range of communication tools and approaches to support sharing of information. d. Undertaking psychometric profiles to create a working gap analysis and self-development plan. h. Presenting information effectively, choosing information sharing tools, making coherent arguments, selling ideas. j. Understanding and application of different methods of designing change.   Assessment Breakdown Management Skills Development Assignment 1 – Presentation Assessment Student Name: ____________________________________________________ Marking Tutor: _______________________ Presentation Date: _____________ • Extent to which the student has evaluated two tasks managers need to be competent at, in order to improve productivity within an organisation. Overall Grade:   GRADE CRITERIA: These are the criteria required to achieve each classification: An outstanding Distinction A+ Work which fulfils all the criteria of the grade below, but at an exceptional standard A very strong Distinction A Work of distinguished quality which is based on a rigorous and detailed knowledge base, including major theories of the discipline(s) and awareness of the variety of ideas, contexts and frameworks and wider implications. Work will demonstrate sustained ability to analyse, synthesise, evaluate and interpret concepts, principles and data within field of study in a considered manner, as well as to develop convincing arguments and judgements appropriate to the field of study/ assessment task. There will be strong evidence of competence across a range of specialised skills using them to plan, develop and evaluate problem solving strategies, to challenge received opinion and develop own judgements. Clear evidence of capability to operate autonomously and self-evaluate in situations of varying complexity and predictability, but within defined guidelines will be demonstrated. Outputs will be communicated effectively, accurately and reliably. A clear Distinction A- Work of very good quality which displays most but not all of the criteria for the grade above. A Distinction B+ Work of highly commendable quality which clearly fulfils the criteria for the grade below, but shows a greater degree of capability in relevant intellectual/subject/key skills. A very strong Merit B Work of commendable quality based on a strong detailed knowledge base for the field of study, including an assured grasp of concepts, principles and major theories, together with effective deployment of skills relevant to the discipline and assessment task. There will be evidence of considered analysis, synthesis, evaluation and application, and the ability to work effectively with minimum direction to meet defined objectives and develop own judgements. There will be consistent evidence of capability in all relevant subject based and key skills, including the ability to self-evaluate and work autonomously with minimal direction to use effectively a range of techniques in situations of varying complexity and predictability. A strong Merit B- Work of good quality which contains most, but not all of the characteristics of the grade above. A clear Merit C+ Work which clearly fulfils all the criteria of the grade below, but shows a greater degree of capability in relevant intellectual/subject/key skills. A Merit C Work of sound quality based on a firm factual/ conceptual knowledge base for the field of study, including a good grasp of relevant theories, together with the ability to organise and communicate effectively. The work may be rather standard and limited in its theoretical grasp, but will be mostly accurate and provide some evidence of the ability to analyse, synthesise, evaluate and apply standard methods/techniques, with minimal guidance. There will be no serious omissions or inaccuracies. There will be good evidence of ability to take responsibility for own learning, some capability to challenge received opinion and form own judgements. Evidence of the ability to operate with increased autonomy in situations of varying complexity and predictability, selecting and applying appropriate techniques will be demonstrated within limits. There will be competence in relevant key skills. A very strong Pass C- Work of capable quality which contains some of the characteristics of grade above. A strong Pass D+ Work of satisfactory quality demonstrating a reliable knowledge base and evidence of developed key skills and/or subject based skills, but still containing limited evidence of analysis, synthesis, evaluation or application, or of appropriate detail or skill application. A Pass D Work of broadly satisfactory quality covering adequately the factual and/or conceptual knowledge base of the field of study and some key theories, appropriately presented and organised, but is primarily descriptive or derivative, with only occasional evidence of analysis, synthesis, evaluation or application. There may be some misunderstanding of key concepts/principles/theories and limitations in the ability to select relevant material or techniques and/or in communication or other relevant skills, so that the work may include some errors, omissions or irrelevancies. There will be evidence of ability to operate with some autonomy in predictable contexts, but less evidence of ability to operate in more complex or unpredictable situations. However, there will be evidence of ability to use a variety of standard techniques, and to meet threshold standards in relevant key skills. A bare Pass D- Work of bare pass standard demonstrating some familiarity with and grasp of a factual/conceptual and theoretical knowledge base for the field of study, together with evidence of some ability to employ specialist skills to solve problems within area of study, but only just meeting threshold standards in e.g. evaluation and interpretation of data and information, reasoning and soundness of judgment, communication, application, or quality of outputs. Work may be characterised by some significant errors, omissions, limitations or problems, but there will be sufficient evidence of development and competence to operate in varied contexts taking responsibility for the nature and quality of outputs. A marginal Fail F+ Work which indicates some evidence of engagement with area of study in relation to acquisition of knowledge and understanding of concepts, principles and theories, and of specialist skills, but which is essentially misinterpreted, misapplied and/or contains some significant omission or misunderstanding, or otherwise just fails to meet threshold standards in e.g. communication, application or quality of outputs. A Fail F Work that falls well short of the threshold standards in relation to one or more area of knowledge, intellectual, subject based or key skills. It may address the assessment task to some extent, or include evidence of successful engagement with some of the subject matter, but such satisfactory characteristics will be clearly outweighed by major deficiencies across remaining areas. A comprehensive Fail F- Work of poor quality which is based on only minimal understanding, application or effort. It will offer only very limited evidence of familiarity with knowledge or skills appropriate to the field of study or task and/or demonstrate inadequate capability in key skills essential to the task concerned. Non-submission/Nil attempt G Nothing presented.
