Assignment title: Information
Evaluations
Final paper (worth 30%)
Students are asked to write a final paper about what they have learned while completing a Positive Psychology Exercise and how their experience connects to the class material. This assignment asks students to describe what activity they chose to complete, reflect on their experience when completing the exercise, and link their experiences to key concepts covered in the course.
Positive Psychology Exercise
Students will complete 1 (one) of the Positive Psychology activities listed below:
1. Three Good Things (for one week – 7 entries)
2. A Gratitude Visit
3. Using your strengths in a new way (for one week – 7 entries)
To choose between these activities, read Chapter 13 (starting on pp 131) of Positive Psychology in a Nutshell (available through the library online and a link is provided in the Evaluations Tab in eConestoga under Final Paper). This textbook chapter gives instructions on how to complete each of these activities and you must follow the steps described in the textbook. Students will then write a paper based on their experience while doing the activity.
Content of the Paper
In the first section the student will describe what activity they chose and how they completed it, making specific reference to the instructions in Positive Psychology in a Nutshell. In the second part of the paper, the student will describe how they experienced the activity and reflect on what they learned about themselves while completing this process. In the final section, the student will link their experience to the theories explored in the class and from other positive psychology research (in-text citations should reference the course textbook not the lectures). Please also include an introduction, a conclusion, and a reference list. The work for this paper takes time, please start in advance of it being due and ask any questions you might have.
Style and Formatting
The paper will be 5-8 pages typed (between 1200-2000 words). Formatting should follow APA@Conestoga unless you make other arrangements in advance (12 point ariel font, double spaced lines, in-text citations, and reference list). Paper should be written in prose – full sentences and paragraphs (not point form).
Paper Submission
The paper will be submitted in the assignment dropbox on eConestoga.
Acceptable Sources
In the description of the activity you choose you should reference Positive Psychology in a Nutshell (additional sources are not expected but are sometimes helpful). For the reflection component of the paper, you will be describing experiences in your own life so references are not expected (you must draw on your own experiences and your own life – you are the expert on your own life so don’t use other sources here). In the final section of the paper, students should use academic resources, even when describing things that others may know (for example, what is mindfulness). These resources include the textbook and other academic sources available through the Learning Resource Centre. When using other’s ideas you must reference them. If you use their words you must put quotation marks around the words and then include an in-text citation. If you use your words to describe their ideas (this is called paraphrasing) you must also include an in-text citation. References need to be in APA@Conestoga format.
