1 Social Media 9369 ONCAMPUS/ 9436 ONLINE Official, Professional and Personal use of Social Media Due: Friday Week 7, 31st March 2017 Worth 30% of total assessment in this unit Learning outcome: Analyse and evaluate personal social media technology usage, online strategies, risk management and governance. Introduction You have been assigned the role of a social media advisor. Your task is to formulate a social media strategy for an established profession of your choice. This profession can be from any domain or sector such as an elite athlete, a celebrity, a politician, official face of a government agency, PR professional, IT professional (but not limited to this list, if in doubt please consult with your tutor). For example, if you are doing sports major, you may like to choose an elite athlete as a profession (note you are not choosing a person per se, e.g. Adam Goods; rather you are choosing a generic profession, e.g. an athlete).Your task is to develop a social media strategy for your chosen professional’s personal, professional and official use informed by best practices in the relevant industry. The Task Once you have chosen a profession, you will carry out the following tasks. 1) Identify the purpose and goal for social media use for personal, professional and official use of social media for your chosen profession. Then choose two social media platforms that are best suited to establish a social presence for your chosen profession. Justify your choice of social media tools. 2) Identify challenges/issues around online social media presence, either personally, professionally or officially. Use Megan poore’s risk analysis matrix to help you identify risks and concerns for their overall social media presence and strategies for mitigation. These risks should be platform independent (i.e. generic). For example, talk about risks in terms of ‘information disclosure’ rather than specific to the platform, e.g. private photos being exposed in Facebook. 3) Formulate a set of strategies for social media presence based on evidence and best practices. What would be the overall public narrative? The strategy may include do’s and don’ts of social media engagement. You may like to use a framework, such as Keitzman’s honeycomb model, to formulate the strategy. Further you may wish to look at relevant profession standards and guidelines for social media use for guidance on how to formulate an appropriate social media strategy. Submission requirement The assignment should include sections related to all three tasks. They should be summarised in a brief format, possibly using dot point format where necessary. Supporting evidence of best practice or cases should be cited, including at least two academic papers. The assignment should be uploaded as word document using Moodle submission drop box. The assignment should not be more than 2-3 pages long (i.e. not more 1500 words).
