Upon completion of this piece of coursework, a student will be able to:

ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
Students will be assessed on the following criteria:
Quality and depth of research: This relates to primary research carried out as well as to the evaluation of
secondary material i.e. academic articles etc. and also to the application of Logistics/SCM related
concepts/tools/methodologies/practices etc.
Clarity and strength of arguments: This refers to your ability to present a coherent analysis, to select appropriate
materials to support your arguments and to recommend realistic and justified proposals and actions.
Standard of presentation: This refers to your ability to communicate your overall research and your
findings by producing a highly readable and well-structured manuscript.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION
Supply chain mapping is “the process of accounting for every material, every process and every shipment
involved in bringing goods and/or services to market” (Source: http://www.sourcemap.com).
The main aim of this assignment is to make you think in “who-what-where-when-how” terms.
After selecting a “real” company/organisation from any sector (e.g. Manufacturing / Services; Large / SME /
Family Owned / Public Service), you are expected to:
1. Conduct a detailed analysis of organisation’s supply chain.
2. Describe the key processes for this organisation, paying particular attention to supply chain/logistics
processes and/or how these processes impact on organisations performance.
3. Critically comment on the efficiency and effectiveness of the supply chain/logistics processes with
the aim of identifying opportunities for cost/time removals and/or value adding along the supply
chain.
Possible sources of collecting information may include: a) a questionnaire designed by you and/or b)an
interview/discussion with a manager, and/or c) specific documentation from the organisation and/or d)
publicly available secondary material for the organisation.

Introduction (where you explain the aims and objectives of the Report as well as its structure,
providing also a brief overview of previous research on the problem/issue under investigation and/or
reference to the importance of Logistics & SCM for the sector/company).
Brief Literature Review (critically presenting key current articles and issues on the chosen
topic/sector)
Empirical Part
- Organisation’s Profile and detailed description, analysis and presentation of organisation’s supply chain as well
as its processes (emphasising on logistics)
- Identify opportunities for cost/time removals and/or value adding along the supply chain
Recommendations & Conclusions.
- Ideas and proposals to capture the identified opportunities.
References, which should be properly written (Harvard System).
Appendices that will not be marked.
Emphasis must be given on the application of Logistics/SCM concepts, methodologies, tools and on providing
a critical analysis and discussion.
SUBMISSION
The final work should be a typed hardbound work of 3000 words.
The assignment should be presented properly and fully referenced according to guidelines given in
the Student Handbook.
