Mini-Research Project (1000 words): DEADLINE 28th April 2017
Your final assessment should relate specifically to a particular media
specialism. For many of you this will particularly relate to your degree
(e.g. journalism, advertising PR & Media, Media and Cultural Studies).
However, you may choose any modality of your choice for this final
assessment. The form that the output will take is also up to you, but it
should be appropriate to the type of research that you have chosen
to undertake. You may choose to demonstrate the results of your
research in a number of ways.Guidelines
The main purpose of this project is to showcase your individual
analytical and research skills and prepare you for independent study
throughout your third year. Mini-Project (Media Specialism). The final
piece of work should demonstrate that the student has:
• Designed a valid and viable research project
• Justified the choice of an appropriate research method and
research question
• Given reason of the methodological choices as appropriate for
the chosen media specialism, and critically discussed the issues
encountered during the research work
• Communicated the research findings in an appropriate and
engaging mannerEssay Structure
The Media Specialism Research Project is basically an Assessment in
which you'll be required to develop a little research on your own (So
match the skills accrued for Assessment 1 with those for Assessment 2
;)
Specifically you'll be required to:
• Chose a topic of your interest related to your degree (e.g.
Corporate Facebook Pages)
• Make a short literature review about it (e.g. what is Facebook,
which are its main applications in digital PR, etc.)
• Elaborate a proper research question (e.g. How do employees as
social media users interact in a work-based Facebook group?)
• Develop a little empirical research for answering your research
question (e.g. content analysis of a specific Facebook page)
• Present your findings and draw some conclusionsTips
• Check the two examples of independent research
project I uploaded for you on MyLearning (Week
23)
• Pick at least 4 sources
• ‘Sources’ means academic articles
• It is up to you to find the sources
• Do not forget to respect the rules for quotation
