“Technology and the Career Impact”
In our classroom discussions, we have discussed the ways that computer technology
(hardware, software, networking, Internet, and more) has changed the way that we
interact, how businesses operate, and the world overall. Technology has impacted most
industries and careers. For your written assignment you are going to analyze your career
goals and companies you admire (including the technology impact). You are also going to
analyze the impact of technology on careers in the future.
Conduct research on the Internet, periodicals, books, interviews, etc. to help answer the
following questions in a three to five (3-5) report.
• Career Goals
o What are your short-term and long-term career goals?
o What role will technology play in that career path?
o What should you be doing to ensure that you have the skills needed to
compete?
• Admired Firms (Companies, Organizations)
o Which firms do you most admire today?
o How do these firms use technology?
o Do you think technology gives them an advantage over rivals? Why or
why not?
• The Future
o Which jobs that exist today likely won’t exist at the start of the next
decade?
o Based on your best guess on how technology will develop, can you think
of jobs and skill sets that will likely emerge as critical five and ten years
from now?
