Assignment requirements
Write your assignment in a report format using academic language. Use your research
(correctly in-text referenced) to provide evidence and support for your beliefs and
arguments. Your report must have the following sections:
• Title
• Summary (or abstract)
• Introduction
• Different sections for the 6 different reporting issues. You may use subheadings
if required.
• Discussion and Conclusion
• Reference List

You need to address each of these points in your report:
1. Review the general concept of triple bottom lines (TBL). You need to use a minimum of 10
references (excluding websites). These references should be from credible sources for example
books or articles published in journals. (6%)
2. Describe the relationship of TBL with sustainable development principles (SD). Discuss TBL key
themes and include responses to the key questions in the lecture notes. (6%)
3. Discuss the significance of TBL in sustainable development. Consider accountability, measurability,
benchmarking and other significant issues. (6%)
4. Discuss the significance of TBL in sustainable construction (SC). (6%)
5. Complete the following TBL reporting exercise based on Global Reporting Initiatives (GRI). (50%)
Assume you are the head of sustainability in a global construction company across many countries.
You are required to apply GRI and TBL concepts in your report on the latest stage of sustainable
development in your company. You must include the following:
• profile of your hypothetical company. Include a name, location, business etc.
• what content, boundary, and indicators are established and why you have chosen to use them
in your reporting (a relevant GRI introduction is in the learning materials).
• strategies and analysis
• organisational profile
• reporting parameters
• governance, commitments and engagement
• management approach.
6. Discuss the challenges and issues in reporting sustainability. (6%)
