You have recently joined a Venture Capital firm as an investment analyst. The managing partner has called you into his/her office and handed you a copy of the following study:
Manyika J, Chui M, Bughin J, Dobbs R, Bisson P, Marrs A. 2013. Disruptive technologies: Advances that will transform life, business, and the global economy. McKinsey Global Institute San Francisco, CA. http://www.mckinsey.com/business-functions/digital-mckinsey/our-insights/disruptive-technologies
Your managing partner is concerned with how disruptive technology will affect the future jobs and work. S/he would like you to conduct an analysis of what you consider is the most disruptive technological innovation among those that the McKinsey study has identified and prepare a report that critically analyses this disruptive technology’s impact on the nature of work both globally and in the Australian context.
1. Read the McKinsey report and review existing research on the technology that you think will be most disruptive on work. Your search should concentrate on journal articles and government/ industry papers and reports from quality sources – a good starting point is8 Google Scholar, Proquest or any of the library’s business databases (http://ecu.au.libguides.com/Business-Law). (Your report should reference a minimum of 4 sources dated 2010 or later. Please do not use Wikipedia, unreferenced internet sources, or basic textbooks. Review the literature and incorporate this in the report)
2. Search the newspapers, internet, business magazines etc. for 2 organisations, one Australian and one non-Australian that are developing and/or using the selected disruptive technology and put forward an argument as to whether they are doing this well.
3. Synthesise your research by critically analysing how your selected disruptive technology and its future development and use will impact on the nature of work both globally and in the Australian context.
Page/ Word limit: 1,500 words, max 4 pages report + 4 pages supplementary material, 12 point font or greater, 2.5cm margins, double-spaced.
Due date: Monday, 17 April 2017.
