Assignment must be submitted via MOODLE by the due date. Penalty for late submission is 5% of the maximum
mark specified for the assessment will be deducted for each working day. Assessment documents submitted
beyond a period of one week after the last date of submission will not be accepted and will be marked as
zero for that assessment.
You need to provide the solution to ALL questions.

Task # 1 Submit a work proposal for this assignment by the end of week 5th i.e. 8th
April, 2017 (11:55 pm) which must include:
Understanding of deliverables – a detail description of deliverables
General overview of proposed plan - initial understanding of solution
for the task-2 to task-4.
Resources identified
The work proposal must be submitted in a word file through the link available
in Moodle.

Task # 2 FreshMart Co. is an upcoming hyper market chain in the gulf region. They
are planning to launch several branches across the gulf countries. The
various branches of FreshMart Co. would be spread across different cities of
the gulf region and their head office would be located in Muscat city. These
chains of hyper markets work round the clock. The management of this
organization is also planning to provide online shopping facility for its
customers.
Consider you are working as a DBA for developing a system for this
organization.
Identify and elaborate a suitable database architecture for implementing
the various business requirements of FreshMart Co.
Discuss the various challenges you may face as a DBA in establishing
application and data security of FreshMart Co.

Task # 3 Reade the research article “DATABASE SECURITY - ATTACKS AND CONTROL
METHODS” As a database administrator, summarize in your own words (not
more than 1.5 pages) on the control methods for the database threats. List
and discuss at least five methods.
The given article is for your reference only and your answer should not be
specific for a certain database system but it should be a generic one. You
may consult various other sources and need to provide the desired
references appropriately.

Task # 4 Your database lab is a networked lab. Provide the details of parameters that
need to be set at database server and client side for proper connectivity
between them.
You may consider ORACLE DBMS software in the lab as back end. Create
simple form using VB.NET or ASP.NET or JAVA API as front end tool. Explain
the necessary steps with relevant commands to configure the database
connectivity to the application.

Evaluation Criteria:
There will be no marks without a viva. Viva will be used as a means to
measure the originality of your work.
You would be evaluated on the following:
Originality of answer, i.e. writing in your own words with some amount
of referenced material.
Oral examination: Your Assignment marks are based on the VIVA which
will be conducted upon submission of assignment. The VIVA will be
based on the tasks given in the assignment. ZERO marks will be awarded
to the student if she / he is absent for VIVA.
Correct information analysis and presentation in document form.
Adequate referencing and citation provided

Guidelines
Follow the guidelines mentioned below for your assignment:
Assignment must be submitted through moodle and it will undergo plagiarism detection
test through turnitin ( a plagiarism detection tool).
Handwritten assignments / hard copy will not be accepted.

PRODUCE YOUR OWN ASSIGNMENT SOLUTION REPORT. The work submitted must be your own and
must not be based on inputs from others. Your assignments shall be submitted to electronic databases
to identify plagiarism. If assignment is found to be plagiarised, action will be initiated. Please refer to
MEC policy on plagiarism (given below).
Plagiarism Policy:
Plagiarized documents, in parts or whole, submitted by the students will be rejected.
For the first offence of plagiarism, a student enrolled in undergraduate programme is penalised with
a deduction of 25% of the maximum marks on the assessment as per the plagiarism policy statement
and is allowed to re-submit the work once, within a week‘s period. The student has the right to appeal
against the decision made, to the respective Programme Coordinator. Further appeal on decision
taken may be made to the Head of the concerned department. If the student is not satisfied by the
decisions taken by the department, he/she can appeal to the Plagiarism Appeals Committee.
For the second offence of plagiarism against the student, (committed in any semester after the
semester of the student‘s first offence of plagiarism in the tenure of the student in the undergraduate
programme), the student is awarded zero in the assessment where plagiarised content was found.
The student is not allowed to re-submit the assessment. The student has the right to appeal against
the decision made to the respective Programme Coordinator. Further appeal on decision taken may
be made to the Head of the concerned department. If the student is not satisfied by the decisions
taken by the department, s/he can appeal to the Plagiarism Appeals Committee.
Repeated offences of plagiarism by the student (more than two times) are dealt with as per the college
policy on Academic Dishonesty as mentioned in the Student Handbook (6.2).Advanced Database Administration (COMP 0343) - SPRING- 17- CW1-ML
All decisions on plagiarism related offences will be communicated to the student by the respective
module instructors, using routine channels of communication with students, currently used by the
college, preferably on the same day the charges are confirmed or the very next working day.
Late Submission
Penalty for late submission 5 % of the maximum mark specified for the assessment will be deducted
for each working day. Assessment documents submitted beyond a period of one week after the last
date of submission will not be accepted and will be marked as ZERO for the assessment. (Reference:

deducted from both assignments.
