UNIVERSITY OF GREENWICH DEPARTMENT OF BUILT ENVIRONMENT Session 2016/17 Term 1/2 Course Title Research Methods Level 7 Tutor Kostis Evaggelinos Aims The aim of this assignment is to provide students with the opportunity to develop a dissertation proposal and identify the most appropriate research methodologies to undertake it successfully. Learning Outcomes On completion of this assignment the student should:  be able to identify a suitable topic for a masters dissertation  be able to develop aims, objectives and hypothesis for their chosen topic  be able to critically evaluate the most appropriate research methodology(s) for their chosen topic  be able to identify risks to the successful completion of their chosen research topic. The Brief Identify an appropriate dissertation topic, produce a rationale, aims, objectives and hypothesis and develop an appropriate research strategy. Undertake a SWOT analysis (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats) on the topic and produce a GANTT chart illustrating a suitable research timetable. General Instruction Submissions must be typed and double spaced. The proposal must be fully referenced; the Harvard system of referencing is to be used. All assignments must be submitted electronically using the Turnitin plagiarism service through Moodle (even where a hard copy is required by your local centre). In Moodle, click on the Assignment folder; Assignment Submission; identify and click the correct assignment link and then follow the instructions. There are a number of centres offering this programme so you must ensure you submit in the correct folder or your assignment may not be marked. You may also be required to submit a hard copy to your local centre. Your local centre will tell you whether or not a hard copy is required to be submitted. Assignments will not be marked unless submitted electronically. NOTE: This does not apply to students registered at Yunnan University of Finance and Economics.
