3. Is GPS spying on us and making us stupid? GPS is a relatively new technology that has many applications: from helping travelers find their destinations to tracking patients with dementia or monitoring animals in danger of extinction, even making it possible to develop and implement games such as Pokemon Go. However, this technology also has its share of detractors. Some researchers have found that relying on GPS navigation hampers users’ ability to form their own cognitive maps, or mental representations of space, thus preventing them from fully engaging in their surroundings. Serious concerns have also been raised in certain sectors of society about the legal and ethical implications of GPS tracking, particularly with regards to issues of privacy. Based on your research about the topic, choose one negative aspect or consequence of using GPS technology and write an essay supported by documentary evidence from at least 3 academic sources persuading readers that either: A) the chosen negative aspect is serious enough to warrant strict regulation of, if not an outright ban on GPS technology or B) the chosen negative aspect is overblown and/or fully compensated for by the positive applications this technology makes possible.
