AUTHENTIC ASSESSMENT Purpose: Authentic assessments are a good alternative to assess what ELs really know. It is important for teachers of ELs to know what their students can do in relation to the objectives and standards. Format: You will design one authentic assessment test for ELs. Along with your authentic assessment test, you need to provide the rationale of the test and explanatory commentaries (including test purposes, proficiency levels, relevant standards, detailed scoring rubrics, and assessment scales with interpretation guidelines). The authentic assessment sample should be no more than 2 pages and the rationale and explanatory commentaries should be no more than 5 pages. Evaluation: The following checklist will be used: • Test Sample • Age and level appropriateness • Description of authentic assessment • Rationale of the test (goals/objectives, standards) • Rubric • Explanatory commentary (assessment scales with interpretation guidelines for using the assessment, information on bias and explain format choice.)
