DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF ASSIGNMENT
In groups of two, students will complete the following assessment.
Content:
Please select one (1) from the five (5) events held in Australia each year:
Virgin Melbourne Fashion Week, Australian Open Tennis Championship, Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras, Australian Grand Prix, Rip Curl Pro Am Bells Beach Working in groups of (2), students are required to submit a comprehensive appraisal of the event.
Taking the form of an executive report your submission should include the following information:
• Describe and classify the event by size, form, and content.
• Discuss the market for this type of event (think national and global) and where your selected event fits within this market.
• Describe the event in terms of its timeframe, attendance, tourism significance, economic impact and organizational structure
• In the opinion of your group what are the strengths of this event? What are its weaknesses?
• What opportunities for growth exist for this event? What might threaten further development for this event?
• Based on your research, your group needs to make recommendations for the future development and prosperity (success) of this event.
Note:
• You need to incorporate an academic framework for this assignment by reading academic textbooks and journal articles relating to events and link that to the major event you have chosen. Therefore your assignment must include a minimum of three (3) academic references to these books and journals. In addition, your group is encouraged to include other non-academic references (e.g., websites, newspapers, magazines, annual reports) and it is likely information from these sources will form the basis of your research.
• Your work is more likely to be viewed favourably if a mix of citations (the internet, newspapers, books, journal articles, reports, etc) is used in your assignments. Your written work should not make reference to material from Wikipedia.
• Support your answers with statistics and examples wherever possible and you are permitted to incorporate tables, diagrams and images ensuring they are labelled and cited accordingly.
• Deadlines will be enforced. Students should immediately notify their tutor of any specific problem that may impact the ability of the team to make the deadline stated. This may include interpersonal conflict, imbalance of contribution, communication difficulties, or discontinuance of a member within the group. No intervention if required will be conducted by your tutor within 7 days of the due date of this assignment.
• Remember to proof read your group report before submitting to ensure it flows well and is presented in a consistent format.
Style Guide:
• Report format, 1.5 or double space
• Font Requirements:
o 11 or 12 pt ONLY
o Use easily readable fonts like Times New Roman or Arial
• Title Page:
o Students’ Names and Numbers
o Tutors Name / Time of Tutorial
• Table of contents
• Include a brief introduction
• Clear headings (each new section should start on its own page).
• Paginate (pg 1 starts with introduction, NOT table of contents), number lower, right-hand corner
• Reference List:
o Follow Harvard Style for referencing literature
o Minimum of 3 peer reviewed references
• Grammar, creativity & style will be assessed
