Assignment Guidelines
Overview
The purpose of this assessment is to demonstrate your understanding of case study
as well as short-answer questions. The case studies are related to IS environments,
concerned with enterprise information systems issues and are from an organizational
viewpoint. Short-answer questions are related to the subject's concepts, and assess
students understanding of the textbook and lectures materials.
Due Date:
In class, Week 7
Submission:
• Submit in class in person. Submission by proxy will not be accepted.
• Upload the Word version on TurnitIn and add the TurnitIn submission number
to your answer sheet
• Answer each question only in the provided space within the answer sheet.
• All answers must be typed using Arial or Times New Roman, size 12, single
spacing.
Marks:
• This assignment is worth 30% of the total subject mark.
• Late assignments will be deducted 10% of the total mark per day late
(including weekends), more than seven days late the assignment will receive
zero.
• Special consideration, for late submission, must be arranged beforehand with
the subject co-ordinator
Feedback:
• Written feedback will be provided for students. General feedback will also be
discussed in the class after mid-semester break
Referencing:
Use of external references such as academic articles and/or professional reports is
permitted, as long as it assists in supporting your answers and you properly

Part (1): Short answer questions (25 marks in total)
1. Explain in details how an organization may choose between applying business process
improvement verses business process reengineering to solving a process performance
problem (4 marks).
2. www.carnextdoor.com.au is a new online car rental service. According to their website
“We’re on a mission to dramatically change the way people think about cars. The way
it is now – with a car to every person, most of them sitting unused for 96 percent of
the time – is just crazy. It’s a waste of resources, a waste of space, and a waste of
money. Plus, having a car just waiting makes driving feel like the easiest, cheapest
option to get somewhere – even when it’s not”
Apply Porter’s Five Force model and write your detailed assessment about current market
position of carnextdoor, and its potential threats and opportunities (8 marks).
3. Conduct a research on the Internet and discuss in details one specific example for
‘phishing’ security risks. Support your answer with a PrintScreen of your example.
Why do you think ‘older people with a low level of computer literacy’ may be more vulnerable

pizza industry” from UTSOnline and answer the following questions.
1. According to this article, what are four reasons (or business values) that motivate
companies to adopt social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter? Briefly discuss each
reason (8 marks)
2. (a) What does competitive intelligence mean? (2 marks)
(b) The article argues that “Pizza industry is one of the first industries that has entered the
social media arena for business purposes and has a large social media user base”. Why do
you think Pizza industry is so keen about social media adoption? (2 marks)
