Question 1 (500 words) (50 marks) The senior management have identified that they perceive that there exists a loss of cohesion between the staff in the office and need to identify what is taking place. They have identified you as the person to set up and chair a meeting of office staff members to discuss this perceived problem. Once the problems have been identified then it should be possible to present possible solutions to these problems. You are required to identify the persons that you want to attend this meeting and start the reasons why and set out the first draft of the agenda for the meeting. (Remember to keep the number of persons attending to a manageable set covering the diversity of the office staff employed) The Agenda for this meeting can be presented as a list of bullet points. Question 2 (500 words) (50 marks) The estimation of voyage costs can make the difference between a voyage being successful and making a profit and being unsuccessful and making a loss. Therefore it is important that you identify what costs are involved and how these are calculated. You can identify these costs by presenting a spread sheet and then writing a short note against each item. (You may use your notes to assist you in constructing this answer) It is important that your answer is laid out in a logical sequence and is easy for the reader to follow. If you want to insert numbers into the spread sheet you can do so, but please make sure that they are relevant and not extreme. The way you present your answer should be the way you would use it as a day to day tool for conducting a voyage calculation. Question 3 (500 words) (50 marks) Maritime Law and Insurance has specialists working on the topics covered by module 9. As a ship manager you need to be able to understand what is being discussed and present sound advice based on facts, not perceptions. Therefore you need to be able to present facts and arguments without personal bias. The senior management have requested that you present to them your position on one of the following two topics. This will be reviewed for future presentation to company personnel. 1. The position of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and its role in International Shipping Regulation and its application? (You may choose one piece of legislation and build your answer around it) 2. What personnel working in a ship management company must understand is when there are negotiations or disputes; there is a need for lawyers to be retained to manage the situation? (You may choose an imaginary scenario and build you answer around it) Remember, you are required to answer only one of the two options given for this question!
