Assignment title: Information
Submit a short written work, in any creative form (poem or prose, etc), based on a 'true
story'.
You may interpret 'true story' as creatively as you like, but consider what it would mean to you to
be true to your research for the work, and what it would mean to be truthful in the work's voice
and presentation. What kind of research is helpful for this kind of work? In what ways will the
reader know or feel this work to be true?
The submitted piece may be in any form or genre. You are encouraged to read widely in the
form/genre you are attempting, and to research and follow any conventions of formatting that
apply.
The submitted piece should be within 10% of the following word limit indicators :
Fiction and Non-fiction prose/story: 1000 words PLUS at least 500 words of draft material
towards this work.
Poetry 300 words PLUS at least 150 words of draft material towards this work.
You also include a one paragraph description (up to 100 words) of your research materials and
methods, if you feel this is a useful addition to your work.
Assessment criteria:
The assignment should:
1. Show evidence of research into content, demonstrated by features such as depth of detail,
verisimilitude, and coherency and integrity of concept, images, setting and characters (as
appropriate to the particular work).
2. Show evidence of research into form, demonstrated by features such as a considered match
of form and content and correct formatting.
3. Show evidence of a thorough creative process which includes revision, demonstrated by
creative liveliness, structural integrity and effective language choices.
