Assignment title: Information

In July 2015, the city of Boston withdrew its bid to become the host city of the 2024 Summer Olympics. A major reason the bid was withdrawn was the lack of public support in Boston despite estimates of an over $5 billion economic impact on the city from hosting the Olympics. In part because of the public relations problems between the city, Olympic organizers and opposition groups, this mega-event attracted a lot of media attention in Boston and across the country.

Your assignment is to write a paper that answers the following question: Was withdrawing the 2024 Summer Olympics bid good for the city of Boston?

Public officials across the US often portray mega-events as opportunities to generate localized positive net benefits, but in fact there is some debate regarding how to measure benefits and costs and determining to whom these benefits and costs accrue.

Remember, this is an economics class, so you will need to include relevant economic concepts and issues in your paper. Be sure to carefully explain how you arrive at your conclusion. To guide you in the style and substance of your writing, imagine this paper will appear on the Opinion page in The Wall Street Journal. Your paper must be two pages in length and double-spaced. You may use any font type and size you desire
