MN610 Virtual Private Network Assignment 2, T3 2016 (Group Assignment) Report submission due: Tuesday 31st January, 2017 Presentation: 1st February 2017 (During PBL/Lab time) Total Marks = 40 marks (15% of total assessment) Description of the assessment: This assignment is designed to acquire a theoretical as well as practical view of the existing features of industry level VPN systems design and their implementations. This group assignment will have each group allocated ONE case study from those in the PBLs. The assignment is to focus on the issues, solutions, and then design, implementation, and the evaluation of the business solutions using VPN devices. Requirements Section One: 1. The assignment is to research a PBL topic to find a related example. By research, it is expected the process will be: investigation to collect key concepts with bibliography, bullet point summary of your main points, rough draft(s), final report, executive summary. 2. Describe the relationship to the VPN course of both topic examples. 3. Describe briefly the environment for your topic including any systems in place and distinctions between the examples. Include the perspective of all relevant entities involved (How does it affect customers, service providers, equipment suppliers, government, public etc?). 4. Discuss the expected topology for the PBL (ie. Remote Access/Site-to-Site, Mesh/Partial, Hub-and-Spoke/Peer-to-peer, overlay) and VPN technology. A diagram may be required to explain this. 5. Layout a VPN problem mitigation policy for the problem. (What should we do to make sure the problem doesn't happen again?) Section Two 6. Create a presentation (5-8 minutes) to be given in the Week 11 Lab Submission Guidelines: Your report should include the following: • A paragraph for every two marks, about 1500 words in total. • A title page, identifying student (name and number), name of the lecturer, tutor and assignment. • Appropriate section headings including which student was responsible for this work. • Reference sources must be cited in the text of the report, and listed appropriately at the end in a reference list using IEEE reference style. • Must be submitted as a single MS Word document (include presentation as appendix) on Moodle. Please make sure your original drawn diagrams are neat and clear to assist with the description and the explanation of the assignment requirements. If you cannot use drawing software, photograph a hand drawn diagram.   Marking Criteria (MN610): Marks Section to be included in the report Description of the section 4 Describe, Discuss, compare and contrast the VPN related issues from your two case studies 3 Decide the most important of the case studies based on what can be addressed by VPN technologies 3 Propose a VPN architecture design that meets organisations' Requirements and Considerations using diagrams (should be drawn using network drawing software), with a clear and detailed description The new proposed VPN architecture design 3 Describe the major VPN components of the new design, their topology (e.g. site to site or remote access.) and architectural implementation plan, again with diagrams (should be drawn using network drawing software). Method, Major components of the new design 3 Describe the major and required network equipment to implement the proposed VPN architecture and their significance e.g. routers, switches, cables, firewalls and any other equipment involved VPN protocol(s), topologies and technologies 4 Discuss the VPN tunnelling and encapsulation protocol(s) and technologies that have been chosen on proposed design e.g. MPLS, IPSec, GRE with supportive arguments for their selection (benefits). Scalability and performance 20 Create a presentation (5-8 minutes) to be given in the Week 11 Lab Issues discussed, solution and benefits Marks withdrawn for All Lateness All Poor Reference style Use IEEE referencing style only All Poor writing Inadequate structure, careless presentation, poor referencing technique or not using at all By Section Plagiarism Type of plagiarism - Copy from other student - Copy from internet source/textbook - Copy from other sources Marking Rubric for Assignment 2: Total Marks = 40 HD 80-100% D 70-79% CR 60-69% P 50-59% Fail <50% Report Presentation Table of contents with appropriate section numbers, figures, references and other appendices Table of contents with appropriate section numbers, figures, references Table of contents with section numbers, figures, references Table of contents and references No proper table of contents, figures, references Proposed VPN infrastructure The diagram included all system components and interconnecting the devices, with proper labelling of network equipment.
