ASTON UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING AND APPLIED SCIENCE EC211C: Estimation and Measurement Assignment II – 2016-17 1. Aim of the Assignment Principal aim of the assignment is to provide an understanding of measurement of building works. 2. Assignment Brief A new housing development project is currently being planned for Stratford-upon-Avon. GallifordTry has been appointed as the management contractor for the project. They are currently in the process of designing a marketing suite for this housing project. 'Useful Structures' have been appointed as the architects, and they have now developed the design. The consultancy company that you are working for (CostimeConsultants) has been approached by GallifordTry to get a full BoQ developed for this marketing suite. You have been provided with the updated versions of available drawings and specifications. You are required to take off quantities, in accordance with NRM2, for following building works; substructure, masonry works, roof, internal partitions, doors and windows, internal finishes (wall, floor and ceiling). You are not required to take off quantities for electrical services, water supply and drainage, bathroom and pantry fittings, and external cladding. You are required to make sensible assumptions for any information not provided in drawings or specifications. Any assumptions made should be reported in a query sheet. Part 1 (40%) Take off substructure work up to the DPC level (including DPC and screed bed) in dimension sheets. Marks will be awarded for: 1. Take-off list and introductory information; 2. Accuracy of dimensions; 3. Correct descriptions compliance with NRM2 rules; 4. Clarity and comprehensibility of method; 5. Setting out and presentation of dimensions; 6. Queries raised and assumptions made. Part 1 needs to be submitted to the school office in hardcopy. Part 2 (60%) Take off remaining works and develop a Bill of Quantities (BoQ). Final BoQ needs to be prepared using QSPro software. Your submission should include; 1. Taking off for remaining works; masonry works, roof, internal partitions, doors and windows, internal finishes (wall, floor and ceiling). You can either present these in dimension sheets or as a QSPro file. 2. Query sheet 3. An unpriced BoQ (including substructure)3.
