Assignment title: Information

Question 1 Notes : • For Part 1 of this question, the Precedence Diagram should be drawn using the methodology illustrated in the Interact site for this subject. Use the POM for Windows software only to confirm your calculations (i.e. to check your answers after you have drawn the network and calculated the activity times, project duration, etc). The diagram can be drawn manually, or by using some software such as MS PowerPoint. See the Interact resources for more information on how to draw a project network diagram in the form of a Precedence Diagram. • For Part 2 of the question, you do not need to re-draw the network, and can use POM for Windows. • The POM version 4 software link is: • https://www.dropbox.com/s/6c26376o26cjeu5/POMQMv4.HRM12.zip?dl=0 Q1 - Part 1 to help you consider what information to include in the report look at the following: • Topic 3 online PowerPoint slides 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 15, 17, 25 (Hint: Would expect at least a Gantt chart and Network Diagram (Precedence Diagram), and identification of critical path in the report). • Also, utilise the eReserve readings (in Resource folder of Interact) such as Fitzsimmons, J. A., & Fitzsimmons, M. J. (2004). Managing projects. In Service management:operations, strategy and information technology (4th ed.)(pp. 383-394). Boston :Mass. :McGraw-Hill/Irwin; and • Chase, R. B., Jacobs, F. R., & Aquilano, N. J. (2004). Process analysis. In Operations management for competitive advantage (10th ed.) (pp. 100-124). Boston, Mass. : McGraw-Hill. Q1 - Part 2 you will need to examine the effects of change in the duration of activity H. Also, you need to consider any implications if the project was to be outsourced for activity H etc. Q1 - Part 3 you need to determine what techniques would be required for an integrated approach as the question has indicated that the critical path method is only part of the integrated approach of project planning methodology (Refer to Topic 3 Module and Topic 3 online PowerPoint slides). Also, you need to at least discuss in more detail at least two of the project tools in addition to how these can be used by WIG on this project. Several tools are covered in Topic 3 module and were presented in the Topic 3 online PowerPoint slides and discussed during the online session. Report for Question 1: All three parts of Question 1 should be written as elements of your total report to the senior management of WIG. The report should highlight significant information on the Project Plan, and refer to those activities that need to be monitored closely etc., and should consider possible alternative action, for example the use of floats/slack activities etc. Read Topic 3 Module on Interact . Also, especially use the website links to PMI and AIPM, and read Heizer, Render & Munson textbook - Chapter 3. Question 2 Q2 - Part 1 this question should be answered by using the software, POM for Windows based on Topic 6 - Location Strategies module. However, students may also attempt the question using the formulae in the textbook and the PowerPoint slides that will be posted in the Interact site on the 20/4/2017. Q2 - Part 2 this will be covered in Topic 6 .However, if you want to know more about location strategies this is covered in Topic 6 Modules in Interact. Also, read the eReserve text in the Resource folder of interact such as Chase et al., Stevenson et al., Schroeder et al, and Heizer, Render & Munson textbook - Chapter 8. Additionally, as a consultant you need to consider what factors would create a more realistic model and that more information of Enviro's intentions is needed to draw up a realistic model by listing of issues, what model/s should be considered or recommended to senior management and why your recommended model should be considered. Question 3 Q3 - Part 1 refer to Topic 5 as we went through a few examples in how to analyse Transportation problems and use POM software. (Hint: You will need to explain the figures in your tables/print outs and discuss implications of the solution.) Q3 - Part 2 should be self explanatory as to what is required for this question. However, you should not only consider what factors are needed to create a more realistic model but also include what issues and other possible models that should be considered.
