Assignment title: Information

Analogue electronics assignment checklist & mark allocations, EE3 PLL for frequency division. Submit & demonstrate your individual PLL work: include your lab preparation (with example applications using PLL for frequency division), along with your real time results & hand drawn graphs and your comparisons between predictions using data sheets and theory with your actual lab results. Up to 30% for practical demonstrations. Reports only accepted following valid practical demos Up to 70% from report, including evidence of preparation, showing: /20 Lab preparation, including calculation details (referring to NXP's HEF4046B and 4040 data sheet information such as typical performance curves and component values). Analyse the circuit provided, identify (from the circuit connections specified) which phase comparator is being used, then estimate & predict likely circuit operation. /15 Practical PLL test results & evaluation, results table identifying: o VCO free running (no input signal) frequency o Centre frequency fo with VCO pin 9 at 2.5V o Tabulated check of tracking range & fv/fin o Graph showing both VCO output frequency, fv and VCO_IN (pin 9) plotted against input signal frequency, fin on the same plot, with linear axes. Comments/discussion/evaluation. Summarize the circuit operation and results of your circuit tests, as investigated in lab 4307: include a comparison between predictions using data sheets and theory with your actual lab results. /20 Specific PLL frequency multiplier/divider example applications, with a brief explanation of how these use PLL. Include an example which is currently available (with one-off price) of either an integrated PLL circuit (i.c. or 'chip'), or of a chip which may be used within a specific PLL application. /15 Clarity and referencing (appropriately citing, acknowledging each useful source & including at least one published text). Ensure that you acknowledge each useful source of information, including diagrams etc. Use citations and a list of references appropriately, see shuspace rules & regulations plus library help: http://libguides.shu.ac.uk/referencing). Seek out and read more than one source, then summarize your findings in your own words for this report (rather than quoting). All reported results & values rounded to no more than 3 sig. fig. & with correct units. Summary report achieved within 4 sides of A4 (main body of report). Appendices limited to material which has been referred to from within the report, and no more than 3 sides of A4. Overall mark: ___________%
