Instructions to Reports on Company Select a business organisation. Choose a company currently listed on the Australia Stock Exchange [ASX]. This will enable you to find credible commercial information. The USC Library has useful databases such as IBISWorld and Company360 to help you find industry information. Word Length Write a report of 1,000 words MAXIMUM on that organisation. You may write up to 1,000 words. You lose 1 mark for every 100 words or part thereof over 1100 words. “Word count” ONLY includes the number of words from the start of the Introduction to the end of the Recommendations. Paragraphs in reports can be quite small, i.e. only three sentences sometimes. Information in each findings/discussion section (i.e. sections 3 to 6) needs to be supported by quotes (paraphrases) as stated above. Do NOT use quotes in other sections of the report. Submission The report is due to be submitted through the TPP 111 assessment via Safe Assign (see the Course Outline for information). A hard copy is not required. • If you cannot submit on time, a. you must communicate this to your tutor first; ideally before the due date of the assignment b. Title page Executive summary Table of Contents 1 Introduction 1.1 Authorisation and Purpose 1.2 Limitations 1.3 Scope and methodology 2 Background Consider history of business; what products and/or services, number of employees/managers? No quotes needed, but must cite sources of where this information was found. 3 Business Organisation 3.1 Type of Business Organisation It will be a publicly listed company on the Australian Stock Exchange [ASX]. How did you find this out? Is it Australian only or does it operate in other countries? When did it incorporate? Be sure to include in-text reference for where you found this information. 3.2 Location of the Business Where is its head office and branches/other offices in Australia? Why do you believe it they locate there? What evidence have you found to support your reason? 4 Management and Leadership 4.1 Leadership Who are the senior management team and/or the Board of Directors of the firm. What do you notice from reading about them (their business biographies – usually on the company website). 4.2 SWOT Analysis of Management E.g. write two sentences about management in general; then provide the table then one sentence after it. (The table will have four parts: Strengths and Weaknesses of the company internally, and external Opportunities and Threats. Use bullet points inside your table. Remember to introduce and label this table accordingly. Only need 3 bullet points in each quadrant. Keep it simple and base it on what you find! AND/OR 5 Entrepreneurial history E.g. If the business provides information about who began the organisation and it was through a particular entrepreneur, then you can use what you have learned about entrepreneurial characteristics theory to apply in this case. AND/OR 6. Legal and Ethical Issues Identify the company’s report about its corporate social responsibility. Consider the rating it has given itself and any recommendations for future action. Paraphrase here unless there is a particular direct quote of value. Remember to reference. AND/OR 7. Marketing Strategies Some marketing theory that relates to/explains what you have found out about your company’s marketing strategies. AND/OR 6 Role of Information and Communication Technology E.g. What role does modern technology play in the company’s operations? How does the company communicate with its customers? Provide cited support. PLUS 7 Conclusion 8 Recommendations Note: Three (3) recommendations are required (one from each of sections 3 to 6 inclusive.) This is the minimum. You may provide additional if you believe they are relevant and support the claims being made. Remember, they must have been explained in the report. Also, a recommendation can be ‘no change’ (i.e. to keep doing what they are doing). These recommendations can be in the form of bullet points in section 8, but must be in sentences in the Executive summary.
