Tasks Objectives: 1. Gather and analyse data for database performance and tuning. 2. Configure and tune a database for optimal performance Marks Deliverables Answer the following questions with respect to Performance Tuning 1 Submit a work proposal for this assignment by the end of week 8 th i.e. 29th April, 2017 (11:59 pm) which must include:  Understanding of deliverables – a detail description of deliverables  General overview of proposed plan - initial understanding of solution for the task-2 and task-3.  Resources identified The work proposal must be submitted in a word file through the Turnitin link available in Moodle. 10 2 Consider you are working as a DBA in a certain large organization. In order to fine-tune the database performance, you need to gather statistics of the database during a certain period of time e.g. between few hours or few days etc. i) Explain the installation steps and the key decisions you would take during installation of any utility package of your choice to collect statistics useful for measuring performance of database system. The installation and usage procedure must be demonstrated in the college lab in Week 12 th as part of the viva. Screenshots must be included in the solution. ii) Using the report generated in Task-2a, interpret any two areas/statistics of your choice. Necessary screenshot of the chosen area/statistics must be included in the solution. 3a 3b The web link to a research paper “Study of Performance Tuning Techniques” is given in the college Moodle web page: With the aid of examples, discuss how SQL tuning can be done to improve performance of a database. The solution must include the screenshots of the SQL commands and brief explanation for each of the commands. The given research paper is for your reference only and your answer should not be limited to this paper. You may refer various other resources and provided references for the same. Do not simply copy and paste the information from the given research paper. Note: The solution must be given in your own words with relevant examples not exceeding 2 pages. Discuss how you would tune the physical structures (data files and log files) of a database. Note: The solution must be in your own words not exceeding one and half page. 32 18 Evaluation Criteria: There will be no marks without a viva. Viva will be used as a means to measure the originality of your work. The VIVA will be based on the tasks given in the assignment. If a student is caught first time in an act of plagiarism during his/her course of study in any assignment other than project work, the student will be allowed to re-submit the assignment once, within a maximum period of one week. However, a penalty of deduction of 25% of the marks obtained for the resubmitted work will be imposed. b. Period of re-submission: The student will have to re-submit the work one week from the date he or she is advised to re-submit. c. If the re-submitted work is also detected to be plagiarized, then the work will be awarded a zero. d. Re-submission of the work beyond the maximum period of one week will not be accepted and the work will be awarded a zero. e. If the student fails the module and has a proven case of academic integrity violation in this module , the student is required to reregister the module PT- COMP 0343A-SPRG-17-CW2 (ASSMNT)-QP COMP 0343A Page 5 of 7 f. If plagiarism is detected in Project work (Project 1, Project Planning and Project Design and Implementation) the above clauses (a,b,c,d) do not apply and the work will be summarily rejected. In these cases the student will be awarded a fail (F) grade and is required to re-register the module B. Second offence of plagiarism a. If any student is caught second time in an act of plagiarism during his/her course of study (in a subsequent semester), the student will directly be awarded zero for the work in which plagiarism is detected. In such cases, the student will not be allowed to re-submit the work. b. If the student fails the module and has a proven case of academic integrity violation in this module, the student is required to re-register the module C. Third Offence of plagiarism If any student is caught for the third time in an act of plagiarism during his/her course of study (in a subsequent semester), the student will be penalized with a fail in the module and shall be required to re-register the module. D. Fourth Offence of plagiarism If any student is caught for the fourth time in an act of plagiarism during his/her course of study (in a subsequent semester), he shall be suspended from the
