Assessment Task Assessment Type and Due Dates: Event 1: Portfolio of in class activities (Assessment A) Due week 7, 29 May 2017 Event 2: Group presentation (Assessment E) Due week 8, 5 June 2017 Event 3: Written Task (Assessment B, C and D) Due week 7, 29 May 2017 Performance Criteria/Evidence Covered: 1. Develop operational plan 2. Plan and manage resource acquisition 3. Monitor and review operational performance Weighting: 100% Instructions to Students For Event 1 you are required to collate the activities for Assessment task A in portfolio format and for Event 3 - Assessment tasks B, C and D you are required to submit a written task. Please use the guidelines below for both written tasks. Assessments B, C and D are to be typed using Arial font 12 point with 2.5cm margins and 1.5 line spacing. Assessment A can be handwritten or typed. Assessment E will be in powerpoint format. All hard copy assessment tasks must have page numbers and your name on each page, be printed single sided and have a signed college cover sheet. All soft copies must be sent by email in PDF format to [email protected] by midnight on the day the assessment task is due. All work in your assessment tasks is to be your own work – if you use information from another source please reference as appropriate. These assessments are non-graded – results will be Competent or Not-Yet Competent. Should your assessment be deemed Not-Yet Competent or further information is required, you will be advised by your teacher and able to correct and resubmit on one further occasion. Event 1: Portfolio of in class activities (Assessment A) Due week 7, 29 May 2017 You will be required to collate the activities you complete in class into a portfolio and submit a hard copy in class in week 7 and email a soft copy in PDF format to your teacher by midnight on the due date. Event 2: Presentation (Assessment E) Due in class week 8, 5 June 2017 Your groups will need to review the 3 elements of competency: 1. Develop operational plans; 2. Plan and manage resource acquisition; 3. Monitor and review operational performance; and prepare a presentation that reviews the in portfolio of class discussions as it applies to a workplace in which you are familiar. Consider how this organisation meets the competencies and suggest areas for improvement based on what you have studied in the subject, “Manage operational plan”. Read the following information to assist you in preparing for your presentation.  Research your audience. Knowing the needs of your audience can help you tailor your presentation to target their interests. What areas are of interest to your class mates and how can you tailor your presentation to capture their interest?  Structure your presentation. The classic format is to tell them what you’re going to say, present, and then tell them what you told them. Don’t forget to include them in the discussion.  Opening. Your opening should be something that makes a connection with the audience. It could be a story or a question. Give them a reason to listen to you.  Body. Try to stick to your three most important points. It’s more important to engage the audience than to tell them everything you know. People generally only really remember 3 things.  Closing. The closing of your presentation is the last opportunity you have to give your audience something that will stick in their minds. What do you want them to remember?  Practice, practice, practice…. But don’t memorise and most importantly don’t read it. Remember it’s OK to forget something. You can always go back to it.  Stay calm. You are among friends. We have come to listen to you tell us something; not to judge. Event 3: Written Task (Assessment B, C and D) Due week 7, 29 May 2017 There are three stages that make up your written task for Event 3. You will be required to bring drafts to class for peer review and to make informal presentations to the class as indicated in the session plan timetable above. You must submit a hard copy in class in week 7 and email a soft copy in PDF format to your teacher by midnight on the due date. Your written task should be centred on your organisation or an organisation with which you are familiar. Assessment B This is the first stage of the three stages that make up your written task for Event 3. There is no word limit or minimum requirement but to allay any fears it is suggested 1500 words would in most cases be a good indicator of the volume of information you should present for Assessment B. Document the requirements for developing a feasible operational plan. The plan you document could be an annual plan for your section/team/unit, an action plan for an event or an improvement or any appropriate plan for your organisation. The following are trigger questions to help you formulate your response. 1. What are the key aspects of the plan? What is it you are trying to achieve? How does achievement of this plan contribute to meeting organisation goals? 2. What are the key physical, human, and financial resources required to support your plan? How will you obtain these resources and how will such resources contribute positively to achieving the plan? 3. What are the key performance indicators that will determine whether the plan has been realised? How will these be measured? 4. How will the consultation process be conducted and how will any conflict that arises during the consultation process be managed? 5. How will you manage writing proposals and gaining approval? 6. What risks and contingency plans exist and how will they be implemented? Assessment C This is the second stage of the three stages that make up your written task for Event 3. There is no word limit or minimum requirement but to allay any fears it is suggested 400 words would in most cases be a good indicator of the volume of information you should present for Assessment C. Examine the need for acquisition of appropriate physical, material and human resources to support the realisation of the plan. The following are trigger questions to help you formulate your response. 1. How will you ensure there are appropriate human resources to support the plan? What are the key competencies required by people who are executing the plan? How are staff recruited and inducted into the organisation and your team/unit/section? 2. How do you ensure you have appropriate physical and material resources to support the plan? Who do you acquire such resources? Assessment D This is the third stage of the three stages that make up your written task for Event 3. There is no word limit or minimum requirement but to allay any fears it is suggested that 500 words would in most cases be a good indicator of the volume of information you should present for Assessment D. Examine the need to monitor performance. The following are trigger questions to help you formulate your response. 1. What systems are used to assess performance in non cost areas of organisation activity? What do these systems tell us about performance? 2. What reports do we use to monitor budget performance and what information do they tell us? What are the acceptable budget variances and what are some of the actions we might take when actual costs are higher than planned costs? 3. How do we go about coaching, mentoring, developing staff in the organisation? What support is there for learning within the organisation? 4. What might be some of the circumstances which might prevent realisation of an operational plan and what do we need to do to respond to required changes in our performance or in our plan? 5. How do we ensure that records of performance align with organisation and legislative requirements? 6. What is under performance and what actions are required to rectify the situation?
