Introduction:
Research title:
This research is being conducted “to evaluate the container houses in hot climate of Saudi
Arabia”.
Background:
This research will focus on the collecting the information regarding climate and temprature in
Saudi Arabia and the prviously used heat controlling measures by builders. The container house is
temporary houses built of shipping containers. Containers houses embedded with windows and
doors. These kinds of houses are generally found in construction places, and utilized for offices
and rest room for workers. But today containers houses are used for residence as well. The
climate of Saudi Arabia is very arid and hot during May to October. Along with this, in moths of
November to April, it is warm environment (NCBI, 2012). The rapid urbanization, high
consumption of water, electricity, increased consumption, higher lifestyle, and industrialization
in Saudi Arabia intensified scarcity of water, pollution, and other issues.
Aims and objectives:
Aims:
The main aim of this research is to evaluate and provide deep insights for building a container
houses in Saudi Arabia. The project is specially aimed to build container houses in rural areas
voiding of water and electricity.
Objectives:
3Research Proposal 4
The main objectives of this research are:
➢ To identify the best insulators for maintaining the container cool
➢ To identify the challenges in building container house
➢ To discern the relationship between container houses and environment
➢ To find out the advantage and disadvantage of container houses
➢ To find the way of generating electricity in rural areas
➢ To quote the price for container and building a container house as well
Literature review:
In words of Ismil et al, (2015) The construction of container houses bear a good simplicity and
its strengths to face fierce whether condition makes it more popular to use to meet the needs of
people for emergency lodge. Along with this, it is transportable which make more popular to use.
Today container house is being preferred for residence also along with temporary shelter.
Container house is taken for advantageous because of transportability, availability, durabitly, and
lower cost.
GAF (2015), identified in his research that container houses are being built in all the regions of
hot climate and cold climate. Carey, T. (2014) found that the builder uses Intermodal Steel
Building Units as unit of low income housing. According to GAF (2015), ISO decides about the
standards of container in terms of temperature, size, and dimensions. There are different models
of containers such as 20’, 40’, 40’HC, and 45’HC. GAF suggested 6 basic features of containers

end-opening, side opening, open-topped, collapsible, hangertaivers, flatracks, and
airconditioned-referigerated.
According to Alter, (2015), the heat problem in containers can be controled through insulation
such as ceramic paints for external surface of containers and ccSPF for interiror surface. Apart
from this, glass wool is also used for insulating the container. Glass wool is mostly used in
Indonesia. Tom, (2015) stated that shading is used for keeping the container cool that is far good
over insulators. Use of straw panels for clading the wall is also effective in insulating. Along
with this, green roof provides best insulative features in containers houses. The roof reflects the
rays of sun and not absorb them can be used to reduce heat
Research methodology:
Research philosophy
Research philosophy creates the understanding in researcher about the research topic or problem.
The research philosophies are positivism research philosophy, interpretivism research
philosophy, and realism research philosophy (Yin, 2013). Positivism research philosophy is
based on scientific methods for finding the research outcomes. This uses quantitative data. At the
same time, interpretivism philosophy develop the conceptual understanding and in relation to the
research problem. Furthermore, realism philosophy is based on the facts exists in environment
(Hair, 2015). Here interpretivism research philosophy will be used because it will make the
researcher able to analyze the problem deeply rather than depending on certain points or
assumption like positivism philosophy.
5Research Proposal 6
Research Approach:
Basically there are two types of research approaches that a researcher can use for analyzing the
research problem. These approaches are deductive research approach and inductive research
approach (Zikmund et al, 2013). A deductive approach focuses on proving the predetermined
assumptions about the research based on information from existing theories, literature reviews,
and previous research papers. On the other hand, inductive approach focuses on all the aspects of
research problems rather than on certain assumptions. This is the wholesome research approach.
In this research, inductive research approach will be used because it helps in analyzing the
research problem from different aspects and in deep (O'Leary, 2013). It develops the theories that
can be used for solving the research problems. It provides the information enough to develop the
solutions.
Research strategy:
Research strategies are the tools or ways of reaching to research data. There are different kinds of
research strategies such as survey, case study, brainstorming, experiments, questionnaire,
literature review, observation, and interview, which can be used for collecting data (O'Leary,
2013). In this research study, questionnaire and interview will be used for collecting research
data from Saudi Arabia and other countries that share similar climate change, pertaining to
research topic. Interview and questionnaire makes me able to researcher in collecting well
relevant, quality, and reliable data to ensure the effectiveness of research. Interview provides the
flexibility in molding the questions.
6Research Proposal 7
Research design:
There are two types of research design, which provides framework for research. These research
designs are qualitative research design and quantitative research design. Qualitative research
focuses on the qualitative data that are not quantifiable such as opinions, and attitude of people
(Taylor et al, 2015). On the other hand, quantitative research focuses on data that can be
measured in quantity or numerically such as age, weight, and height. In this research, both the
research design will be used to collect the data because qualitative data will explain about the
environment in Saudi Arabia and the living in a container house (if found). and quantitative data
will show the effective of climate temperature on cargo house, previous data, and other.
Data and Data collection Methods:
The researcher in this researcher will gather both primary and secondary data. Secondary data
will help in developing understanding about the shipping donated houses in saudi aria and
primary data will help in finding the challenges, issues and in devising the possible solution to
those issues as mentioned on the Objectives . The secondary data will be collected from literature
reviews, research papers, and internet sources (Novikov and Novikov, 2013). Along with this,
questionnaires and interview will be used for collecting the primary data. This is because
interview and questionnaire will provide significant data with reliability, purity, and relevancy.
Sampling:
Sampling is the procedure of taking some variables from the universe, which represents the
whole universe or population. In this research, around 50 managers from different container
house construction companies in Saudi Arabia will be analyzed to collect the data. Along with
7Research Proposal 8
this, there are various methods of sampling such as simple random sampling, quota sampling,
strata sampling, deliberate sampling, area sampling, and cluster sampling (Levy and Lemeshow,
2013). Here deliberate sampling will be used because a well established and famous company
can provide more reliable information than the company emerged recently.
Data analysis and representation:
Data analysis is the process of arranging, sorting, processing, and assessing the data to give it a
meaningful form of information. There are different statistical tool, economical tools, SPSS(???
really really expensive ask to mention or not), and other mathematical tools to analyze the data.
In this research study, the SPSS, and Statistical tools will be use to analyze the collected data.
Because SPSS and Statistical methods provide base for effective analysis of data. They are easy
to use and handle (Hair, 2015). Furthermore, tables, graphs, and pictures will be used to
demonstrate or represent the analyzed data regarding container house developments,
temperatures, instruments, and others for better interpretation. The effective interpretation of data
ensures the generation of effective solution to problem.
Ethical consideration:
Ethical consideration is necessary for ensuring the research is effective and viable. The
information drawn from the respondents will be kept confidential. The data will be collected
with full consent of respondents (Gray, 2013). They will not be forced for providing the
information, which they think of critical for leading any issues for them.

Output:
• A report of findings from primary and secondary sources about container houes in hot
climate change will be developed
• Insight development about the research topic
• Improvement in knowledge of the container houses elements
Outcomes:
The research is proned to help in developing the a container house in hot climte specically in
rural areas to sheltering the people in emergecy situation and for residence use as well. Along
with this, the research will help in building container house at lowest cost but without
compromising with qualtiy. It will help in using perfect insulator according to heat of climate in
different region.
