Assignment
Using the case study allocated to you, critically discuss aspects in the case study
organisation such as the KM tools and KM techniques, KM models and KM
processes, organisational learning and learning organisation, knowledge sharing and
trust, communities of practice, applying knowledge for innovation, new knowledge
creation, KM and organisational culture, KM governance, and organisational
memory. Discuss the outcomes of the implementation and compare this against the
KM aspects that have been discussed in the lectures.
Evaluation will be based on your argument, completeness, appropriateness, justification and
critical analysis.
Note that your grade will also depend on how professionally your paper has been
structured, formatted and presented. An abstract of the report should be included.
Submission requirements
• The report will comprise:
i. a brief introduction
ii. a review of relevant literature on the theme you have selected
iii. a review of the KMS
iv. a critical discussion
v. a conclusion and
vi. a list of references (between 10-15)
• The report should be 2000 words (word-processed in 1.5 spacing, 12-point, Times New
Roman)
• All quoted material should be fully cited APA 6th. or Harvard style
• All ideas from other authors should be fully cited using APA 6th. or Harvard style
• Assignments that do not conform to all requirements will be awarded a mark of zero.
• Assignments not received by the due date will not be marked, except in exceptional
circumstances where approval has been received prior to the due date from the subject
coordinator.
• Accuracy in spelling, syntax, citation and referencing is strictly essential.
Marking Criteria:
• Evaluation will be based on your argument, completeness, appropriateness, justification and critical analysis.
• The grading criteria for the individual assignment comprise the assessments of:
• Content:
1. clearly address the topic with appropriate elaboration of relevant sub-topics, appropriately weighted and within the prescribed word count
2. demonstrate an understanding of the necessary concepts
3. use sufficient and appropriate material from relevant and credible sources to effectively support the key points
4. have adequate number and quality of references used
5. demonstrate the ability to critically reflect upon key ideas
6. drawn conclusions based on the evidence presented by them
• Structure/organisation:
1. the introduction is appropriate to the type and format of response and clearly outlines the focus
2. the body of the response is well structured, with coherent and logical development of key ideas in appropriate sections/paragraphs
3. each section/paragraph has a clear focus and line of thought
4. the conclusion is appropriate to type and format of the response, successfully summarising the key ideas
• Writing expression:
1. the writing style is appropriate to the task
2. the writing is fluent, exhibiting grammatically correct sentences that are appropriately punctuated
3. there are no spelling or typing errors and due regard is given to rules of capitalisation and abbreviation, etc.
4. key ideas from the literature are effectively interpreted and cited, and direct quotes are appropriately incorporated
• Presentation:
o the response conforms to the appropriate style guide advice and the requirements of the specified format (fonts, margins etc)
• Referencing:
1. in-text citations and direct quotes follow referencing guide rules.
2. reference list and/or bibliography appropriately compiled.
