Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this assessment, the student will be able to:
1 Propose and analyse techniques and strategies for the management of supply
chains.
2 Analyse strategic concepts or factors that guide or affect planning, policy
development, and the organisation and flows of supply chain management.
3 Evaluate the key perspectives and phases of design and their later implications for
production, delivery, and in-service sustainment.
6 Evaluate the application and derivation from economics and accounting fundamentals
to production engineering economics.
7 Describe and apply criteria for identifying external consultancy needs and
performance expectations at various professional levels.
Purpose
AMRI700 aims to teach students methods for identifying and solving resource integration
problems prevalent in industry. Students are required to work on a case study independently
in order to identify, apply and evaluate resource integration concepts to a real world problem.
Assessment Instructions:
Submit a case study report from any one of the available industries presented in Table 1. The
case study (assessment two) and the group project (assessment three) are linked together as
explained below in the document.
Table 1: List of industries and respective organisations.
Industry Organisations
Aviation Air New Zealand Jet Star Emirates
Manufacturing New Zealand Steel Samsung Tata
Food Fonterra New Zealand Natural Cadbury
Retail Pak’nSave Warehouse Alibaba
Construction Fletcher Fulton Hogan Skanska
Information Technology Jade Software Google Microsoft
Healthcare Christchurch Hospital New Zealand Blood Pfizer
Each student is a part of a group project (assessment three). In Table 1, industries and
organisations (within each industry) are shown for group project (assessment three) selection.
However, for case studies (assessment two), students are required to select an industry other
than the one they select for their group project (assessment three). Moreover, for case study
(assessment two) students are required to find an organisation other than the ones provided
in Table 1.
Examples are presented below to elaborate on the viable options for selecting appropriate
case study (assessment two) in regards to each industry listed in Table 1.Education and Applied Research Division Department of Business

Example 1: Aviation Industry
If a student is a part of the group that has chosen their group project (assessment three) in
aviation industry then the options remaining for the group members to do their case study
(assessment two) are in the following industries.
Manufacturing
Food
Retail
Construction
Information Technology
Healthcare
Furthermore, the case study (assessment two) can be considered in any of the organisations
except the ones presented in Table 1.
Example 2: Manufacturing Industry
If a student is a part of the group that has chosen their group project (assessment three) in
manufacturing industry then the options remaining for the group members to do their case
study (assessment two) are in the following industries.
Aviation
Food
Retail
Construction
Information Technology
Healthcare
Furthermore, the case study (assessment two) can be considered in any of the organisations
except the ones presented in Table 1.
Example 3: Food Industry
If a student is a part of the group that has chosen their group project (assessment three) in
food industry then the options remaining for the group members to do their case study
(assessment two) are in the following industries.
Aviation
Manufacturing
Retail
Construction

Example 4: Retail Industry
If a student is a part of the group that has chosen their group project (assessment three) in
retail industry then the options remaining for the group members to do their case study
(assessment two) are in the following industries.
Aviation
Manufacturing
Food
Construction
Information Technology
Healthcare
Furthermore, the case study (assessment two) can be considered in any of the organisations
except the ones presented in Table 1.
Example 5: Construction Industry
If a student is a part of the group that has chosen their group project (assessment three) in
construction industry then the options remaining for the group members to do their case study
(assessment two) are in the following industries.
Aviation
Manufacturing
Food
Retail
Information Technology
Healthcare
Furthermore, the case study (assessment two) can be considered in any of the organisations
except the ones presented in Table 1.
Example 6: Information Technology Industry
If a student is a part of the group that has chosen their group project (assessment three) in
Information Technology industry then the options remaining for the group members to do their
case study (assessment two) are in the following industries.
Aviation
Manufacturing
Food

Example 7: Healthcare Industry
If a student is a part of the group that has chosen their group project (assessment three) in
healthcare industry then the options remaining for the group members to do their case study
(assessment two) are in the following industries.
Aviation
Manufacturing
Food
Construction
Retail
Information Technology
Furthermore, the case study (assessment two) can be considered in any of the organisations
except the ones presented in Table 1.
Important: Unless the groups are formed for the group project (assessment three), students
cannot make progress towards their respective case studies (assessment two). In order to
accomplish the case study (assessment two), it is highly desired that students form groups of
three for the group project (assessment three) as soon as possible.
Required
In case study (assessment two) students are required to accomplish the following tasks in the
order given below. Please refer to the case study report template available on the course
Moodle site. The report must be according to the prescribed template, should be printed on
one side only and stapled in the top left corner and should contain the following elements in
order:
1 Research question (0.5 page)
Identify and frame a research question based on the problem you have considered in
the organisation of your choice.
2 Executive summary (0.5 page)
Provide a summary of the report and it should include: purpose, background, main
findings, conclusions and recommendations.
3 Introduction (1 page)
Introduce the topic of discussion, elaborate the problem and define its scope clearly
in the industrial and organisational context.
4 Application of resource integration technique (2 pages)
One technique, covered in the course, should be used appropriately in regards to the
selected problem. Provide justification/reference for the chosen technique and for
any data used. Show complete workings.
5 Analysis of results, critique and recommendations (1 page)
Results should be thoroughly analysed and their appropriate interpretation should be
presented based on the report findings. Discuss the constraints or limitations of the
results. Recommendations must be based on the results obtained.Education and Applied Research Division Department of Business

6 Conclusion (1 page)
Conclusion should cover all elements covered in the report and should integrate the
problem with the solution based on the report findings.
7 Evidence of wide reading of the topic (1 page)
Reference the literature (from credible sources). Provide in-text citations and
reference list using APA referencing style.Education and Applied Research Division Department of Business

Case Study Report
The report should be a description of the fundamental concepts surrounding the topic of
interest. Conduct a literature research around your chosen topic and organisation from
credible sources such as journal articles, textbooks, company websites, document the findings
(including references), and analyse your chosen organisation thoroughly. A successful report
include a resource integration technique learned in the class (e.g. optimal trade-offs, modeling
techniques etc.). For the list of permissible techniques that can be used in the case study
(assessment two) please refer to the document provided on the course Moodle site. Data can
be collected any secondary source or can be generated on your own, however, it must be
reasonable. In either case appropriate reference or justification/rationale must be provided for
acquiring data.
A standard case study report is around 7 pages. The text, tables and figures in the
report should be word processed using MS Word and not hand written or drawn and should
be labelled appropriately. Please provide both the hard copy and the softcopy of the report.
The hard copy should be submitted in the O-Block drop box and the softcopy of the report
must be submitted through turnitin on the course Moodle site by the prescribed submission
deadline. Please do not email the softcopy of the report to the lecturer.
Report Writing Guidelines

Equation Editor.
Note:
1 All the above mentioned elements should begin from a new page except the research
question and the executive summary which can be placed on the same page in the
above stated order.
2 Strictly follow the prescribed page limit for each section of the report. Failure to do so
may result in a penalty. For details, refer to assessment template and the marking
rubric.
3 The case study report should be professionally edited using the prescribed guidelines.
4 Present appropriate content in the report and do not use vague references.
5 Students must not approach or contact any of the organisations for this assessment.
6 In case of queries, please contact the lecturer.
