Expectations
Candidates should present their submissions in a professional manner conforming to house
style conventions. The submissions should be submitted under this briefing sheet and be
side bound with a clear transparent cover and a card back cover.
Inconsistent formatting including inappropriate margin, line and paragraph spacing, lack
of page numbering, use of both sides of the sheet will be marked down. Submission which
are poorly edited will also be marked down under this heading.
Clarity of expression
You are expected to produce an effective review within the word count. An inability to
write concisely in many cases results in overviews which are much too long (winded) and
consequently lead to inadequate in-depth reviews.
Poor grammar, spelling errors, and non-academic language will be marked down. The use
of conversational, long-winded or needlessly complicated writing styles often results in
unclear or confusing expression. It is expected that submissions will be edited and proof
read before submission; drafts (particularly first drafts) will be marked down.
General review.
The assessor acknowledges that reviewing the literature is a personal activity, but an
understanding of the requirements of the brief should inform the approach. The review
should go beyond a mere summary of the content of the sources and should analyse and
critique the key themes and issues emerging from the literature
There is much advice and guidance both in the library and on the internet on how to
approach carry out reviews and assignment writing; these should be referred to. Particularly
useful sources include:
