Assignment title: Information

Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) Application Report You are asked to prepare a report which reviews an ITS application area. Several possible topics are identified at the end of this assignment brief. The report will ideally cover the policy, technical, business (if relevant) and evaluation dimensions of the selected application area. The report should add value to or extend material covered in the course notes with a balance of breadth and depth in the coverage of the selected application. Your paper should be about 5,000 to 6,000 words (i.e. 12 to 15 pages of text excluding diagrams/illustrations, appendices, references) and should be structured as a technical report. Your report will be graded based on the following criteria: • Does the writer demonstrate a clear understanding of the topic? How well does the report reviews the ITS application area? • Has relevant literature been researched, cited, and adequately connected to the paper? In this sense, you need to demonstrate your capacity to synthesise different sources of information (rather than relying on, for example, a set of government documents), critically analyse and structure the material and reflect on the content. • Has the report been clearly written with attention given to structure, layout, and English expression, including proofreading to eliminate obvious misspelling, grammatical or typographical errors? • Are references correctly cited in the text and fully detailed in the reference list? Possible topic areas include: • Autonomous vehicles and its implication • Cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems • ITS and road safety • Application of smartphone in transport and traffic • ITS and non-motorised transport (i.e. bicycles and pedestrians) • ITS and public transport • ITS and public transport ticketing • ITS and Parking Guidance/Parking Booking systems • ITS and Freight Transport • Developments in in-vehicle navigation systems • Advanced driver assistance and support systems • Technology for data collection • Electro mobility and charging • Eco driving • ITS applications to assist with highway construction and maintenance • Application of unmanned aerial vehicles in transport
