Assessment instructions
(clear, succinct, without repetition)
To facilitate your understanding of cross-cultural
management you will undertake your own research
and write a Company Report.
Each of you will choose a fictitious company in
A) FASHION RETAIL
B) SUPPLIER for Hospitality (restaurants, hotels)
C) SUPPLIER for Trade Fairs
D) TRAVEL AGENCY
You are the owner of this company.
You will create a name for the company and briefly
describe their services, their set up, their vision and
mission.
You will then decide which country this company will
be starting business deals with and also having the
view of expanding in this country.
Please choose a country which you can find on the
Hofsteede website (https://geertPage 1 of 2ASSESSMENT TEMPLATE
hofstede.com/countries.html).
In your report you will create a plan how you are going
to set up your new venture in this new country
considering various cultural aspects. This should
include marketing, recruitment, staff handling, internal
communication, business communication with
stakeholders and partners, etc.
Each week's lecture will give you new theoretical
concepts and insights which you will build into your
considerations.
By week 3-4 you will have chosen the company and
country for your reports.
You will aim to choose different countries and
companies that would help covering a wide range of
cultures which will contribute to all students' knowledge
of cultures and will increase their cultural sensitivity.
It is recommended that you choose a country that is
different in culture from your own.
Each report must be a piece of academic writing in
report style of approx. 1500 words in length (excluding
the reference list) and complying with ICMS Style
Guide.
Reports should be submitted through Turnitin in
Moodle by Week 9 AND a hard copy should be handed
in to the lecturer.
