Course Description:
Injury and disability management are often practiced in the context of workers compensation and motor accident insurance legislation. Concern over injury and disability in the workplace and in communities is growing as a result of escalating costs, as well as economic and personal impact on injured persons. This course will focus on promoting an understanding of the impact of injury in relation to the individual, return to function, the return to work process and society. Furthermore, it will promote a greater awareness of methods of effective injury management. Current legislative approaches to Injury Management throughout Australasia are based on the concept that an individual who acquires a compensable injury, is able to be returned to function, maintained at work and/or return to the workplace in some capacity as soon as is practicably and safely possible. Provision of suitable duties by employers is an integral part of this process. Counselling and support for the injured person is also crucial to obtaining a safe, successful and durable outcome. Discussion of the role of the Rehabilitation Counsellor in understanding the perspectives of stakeholders in this process will be undertaken. Students will also learn how to develop and monitor an injury management plan for an individual who is injured or ill, that incorporates a continuum of care from the onset of the condition through to recovery. This course was formerly 7020HSV. Incompatible: 7324AHS Injury Management and 7020HSV Injury Management are incompatible with 7320AHS.

‘Students are also asked to propose a brief research question or aim that could be utilised if, hypothetically, they were to pursue the research topic further.’
I have identified gaps in research of the role motivation plays in return to work of people with psychological injuries (stress), in the Australian Public Service. (So at the end of the report I have to note what is missing in literature etc).
