ASSIGNMENT
With globalization, demographics changes and the increasing reliance
on technology, organizations have to focus on what really matters to
improve the performance of the organization. High-performing
companies believe that organizational and people capabilities drive
sustainable performance. Apple, Google, Microsoft, Procter & Gamble
and General Electric are examples of high performing companies
which the leadership resonates with the employees, make them feel
valued, encourage the employees to offer suggestions for
improvement, pro-actively seek their ideas and opinions. Highperformance leaders engender confidence and win-win outcome by
working together. They ignite passion, inspire the best in people and
work through emotions. Daniel Goleman, an internationally known
psychologist, advocates that leaders with emotional intelligence
achieve better business results, retention of talent, higher employees’
morale, motivation, and commitment.
Refer to the organization of one of your team members and discuss on
its leadership. Compare with the leaders of high performing
companies. What are the similarities or differences? Elaborate on
whether they have the characteristics defined in Daniel Goleman’s
model. Comment on the level of employee engagement and the
willingness of the employees to contribute to the success of the
organization.
You have the option of reviewing from an organization, division or
departmental level. The name of the organization may be changed for
confidentiality reason. You are required to provide a brief overview of
the organization which includes the culture, vision, mission and core
values. The brief of the organisation is to be limited to two pages. The
assignment has to include the team’s observations and
recommendations; with examples and/or theories to support the
team’s observations.
